The way I tell this joke it’s Wanda, you only see the W and A, and “welcome to jamaica, please enjoy your stay, and then have a safe trip back home to America”
I’m not against tattoos and have mulled exactly one for about 15 years without pulling the trigger. Chances are I won’t ever pull the trigger on it, but if I did, I might be one of the few people who have only one tattoo.
Tattoos are like Lays potato chips: bet you can’t have just one.
My man. I created a tat thread a while ago talking about this topic. I am slightly addicted.
I actually have a 10 hour session tomorrow on my left elbow inner bicep. I have my right arm sleeved in a tribute to my dad and there is a tattoo for 517 (JACKSON) and then also the a lion with the 313 underneath him….as well as a LOTR reference etc.
My Left arm will be fully sleeved tomorrow. I am starting my right leg sleeve in a few months. I am going Detroit Sports Culture. Thinking Charles Woodson, Dan, Calvin, Fedorov, The M, The Ol English D, JAMO (the name), Big Ben, BAD BOYS.
I have my chest and back done as well. my kids, my dad, stuff like that.
I want to get my hands done…..but I am leary of it given my profession. BUT a few of my fellow psychologists have their hands done and my clients actually love my tats…say it helps them relate to me.
I could talk tats all day. I study them so much, that people will come in to see me and I will know where they went and who their artists was in the greater Pittsburgh area.
So I am funny. What’s almost more important to me is the relationship. Don’t get me wrong. I have a really really good artist, his realism stuff is very well known in this area and he has a wait list of a year for new clients. regular’s like me can get in within 2 months.
So i have never had a tattoo session like you see where the artist has headphones on or the client is on his phone. I have probably been in the chair for a total of 75 hours and every session its just us talking about philosophy, sports, life, religion, politics, just life…..kids…..some times he will describe a client he had to me and ask me to diagnose them almost like a case study vignette.
The numbing stuff doesn’t really work. I have tried one or two not because I needed to but I wanted to see what it felt like so like on a section of a sitting he has tried different ones and honestly it doesn’t make a difference at all.
We take breaks, we will do 2 hours straight….take a 15-30 minute break…do 2 more hours….order lunch…..do 2 more hours. The last 2 hours of every session no matter what sucks. period…..I talk less during the last segment……lol.
there is an artist in Japan. Who does geometric work…….completely by hand…..he does not stencil beforehand.
He has a 2 year wait list and you have to be a clean canvas, no other tattoos, and you have to be wanting extensive work. Body sleeves etc kind of work…or at least your upper or lower torso done.
My guy does not do line work. He just does the entire thing as he goes. There is a fluidity to his work that makes him one of the best artists in Pittburgh.
A local girl, she won ink master like 5-6 years ago. Her parlor is 350 an hour and a year waitlist. The work is really good though.
