Again wont be heading up north.
Alpena saw noticable improvement throughout the day. The AQI went from 500 this morning to 278 right now.
Thing is, the wind will be coming out of the East, tomorrow. I really hope that doesn’t mean it’s going to blow what just left, back over us.
We have a western U.P. vacation set up in 3 weeks. I hope this is under control, at least.
We were supposed to go Wednesday night, but had dentist appointment so scanned it back after I was done. Then we were going to go up Friday morning. Who knows now thanks Canada for the smoke in july.
In a heat dome filled with wildfire smoke and poop parasites…I want more, unleash the murder hornets!!

This is where I’m at… powerless over a fire raging that is larger than the state of West Virginia…. 1000’s of miles away…. I’m another country… and I don’t control the wind either…
I have a feeling this is the new normal. Can’t be sure, but this is the third consecutive year in Canada.
Same thing has been happening in Siberia, huge wildfires over several consecutive years. The north is burning.
I have no idea what can really be done about it in the short term except to do a rain dance.
Glad I’m 54…my days are somewhat numbered, I may not make it to when the world going full thunderdome, but the youngins are probably in for a wild ride on their morning commute…

I feel bad for the young people of today. Totally getting screwed on multiple fronts. Jobs, digital addiction, AI, unaffordable housing, and now it seems the chickens may be coming home to roost on the climate change front. Just a huge shitshow for them.
On the other hand they also have incredible advances coming in medical care, and life work balance that nobody my age even dreamed of. Work remote? Unlimited pto? Pet insurance?
Access to a store of value that is not tied to any government’s ability to print it or hoard it?
Instant entertainment and Communications literally anywhere on the face of the Earth
Platforms and templates to easily become entrepreneurs with almost zero investment and capital risk
Endless Options for cuisine and Specialty diets
We don’t always have to focus on the negative
Humanity seems at a crossroads of either going post apocolyptic mad max or utopian star trek in the next 50 years…but it’ll probably end up somewhere in between, more of a mix of both worlds in a cyberpunk 2077 world - major technological advances being the norm, but still a dirty place outside
Fair enough, but measures of depression, anxiety, ADHD, and addiction, are much higher among young people that it was for us. Also, they aren’t having sex.
See I think that’s b******* too…. to talk about how it’s a more nuanced approach to look at rates of autism Now versus in the past and just say there was underdiagnosis back then. If that’s true then let me tell you under diagnosis, under recognition and under treatment of all the things you just mentioned were massively undercounted back in the day because of societal expectations and differences
Now the sex part is true which I don’t even know how to approach
Naw bro, that stuff is real. I’ll let you dig into if you like. I gotta work now ![]()
I will for sure, but I’m not saying it isn’t real I’m saying that the idea that it’s massively increased over past benchmarks is not accurate or at least not as severe. I understand there’s some very funky brain biochemistry stuff going on with social media and screens so I get that there are different inputs which could result in different outputs.
But Society has changed too. When I was growing up you couldn’t even say the word cancer mostly because it was a much nearer to guarantee death sentence, and you sure as hell didn’t talk about being gay to your family in the vast majority of households. There were other social factors that are more on the edge of political discussion not as far as parties but as far as social structure and mores that were far more overtly present than they are now. All of these things contributed to a pretty shaky and shifting mental health landscape for young people. And the medical and social infrastructure to talk about it and deal with it was nowhere near as advanced prevalent or pervasive as it is now. Not even close
There is so so much more to this than any one thing. I really wish it was a simple topic.
There are absolutely people hunting autism and aspergers diagnoses for themselves because they can’t take accountability for their own personal shortcomings. I’ve seen it in my own life. On the other hand, the rate of “profound” autism is also going up, and that’s clearly not a mental health problem.
Played 29 holes… Worst part was the humidity and no wind, just brutal… I was sweating just sitting in the cart
