The Den's Annual NFL Mock Draft 2026 Edition - Lions Selection at 17

I think he can hold up at RT, he’s definitely got the feet for it, but it is certainly a question. I also don’t know that he’ll be our FO’s type. But I really like his long-term potential as a center as a fall-back plan, and he just moves so much better than anyone else.

Plus Sewell is his idol.

It seems that a mistake was made with the poll. It doesn’t include a trade down option.

I personally don’t see it. Maybe if he’d shown he could do it in the SEC or Big 10, I’d be a little comfortable projecting him there. But there’s not just enough tape on him against decent talent the last couple years, imo. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable drafting him with the intentions that he’d be successful as an OT in the NFL.

… i wish we could pick Tre Downs here but… we cannot.

Fair enough. We shall see. He wouldn’t be my first choice but he’s an extremely talented guy, but the concern on OG vs OT is a real one. Of course Iheanachor and Lomu have the same issues re: competition level, as did lots of other good current NFL tackles, so I don’t hold that one against him nearly as much. But I am worried about him holding up against power.

Agreed. This is just one of those guys who’s a gifted football player. He has dominated at RT. When you start over-analyzing arm length and broad jump and shuttle times and hand size and head circumference you can talk yourself out of drafting the best football players. This guy at 17 is the best player and he plays a position of need. Assuming no trade down is available you take Fano and make your OLine better.

Yeah, that’s all fair. I’m just taking that into consideration when I’m drafting a mid-round pick. To me, it’s a tough sell for Fano at 17 because I don’t see him as an OT. I’m sure some team will, and maybe even the Lions will…I just hate the value there at 17 haha

Seems like a realistic scenario that could occur on draft day.

In which case, I’d hope we can move down a couple spots and grab an extra 3rd/4th/5th.

Draft RT Blake Miller.

50 career starts. 9.97 RAS. Plug n Play for the next 5 years.

I’d draft Blake Miller at 17 before Fano at 17, 100%

Set the Clemson school record for consecutive starts (53+)

Four-year starter with over 3700 career snaps.

Iron man

And I’d draft either of them FAR before Proctor lmfao

Iheanachor did go down and dominate at the senior bowl and showed his strength clearly plays against the best college football had to offer.

You went Edge? I respect that. I’ve been trying for years to get us an edge #2.

Honestly wouldn’t shock me if they went Mesidor on draft day if they feel like his age 25 years old is a plus for us and he is more pro ready now.

Said it before, even if he is a 1 contract guy, that takes him to age 30. We can’t resign everybody to 2nd contracts.

I don’t know much about the DE you drafted… player comp Za’Darius well that’s a big parallel there for us

Fano at 17?

Miller is still the most likely pick, despite what happens here.

Honestly I think he will be long gone. Word is the league loves him.

I would steer clear of Mesidor if it were me. I hate any projection of a guy who doesn’t break out until he’s 25/6th year player. To me that just means he’s a dude playing against kids and when he has to play against men, he’s going to get his booty clapped.

Like I said, I’m not overly worried about the competition level personally. My issues with Iheanachor were more about having to play right away, I think he’s got the furthest to go of all these guys mentally, so I really don’t want him to have to play too early. I think that showed at the Senior Bowl too. He flashed in the one-on-ones but the team portions were much more up and down.

Hey, if someone wants to pay that price for an iOL, by all means, get him off our board, haha. I hate that value though. I don’t think he’s a HOF-type guy and that’s the projection I need from a guy I think is an iOL to take them in the 1st half of the 1st round. Maybe if I was confident he could slot in at C, but I’m not.

It’ll be interesting to see how his career pans out and where he eventually ends up. Like I said, I like the player, I think he’ll be a good-to-great NFL iOL. But I’m a value guy and very rarely is an iOL grading out to a 1st round value for me, especially the top half of the 1st round.

I just don’t think this holds up to scrutiny. In fact I saw someone ask Lance Zierlein this very question on twitter earlier and he confirmed it.
