I was reading this morning that the Sao Paulo government is increasing security for tonights game, and will include specialized military police battalions. This is due to players concern over a terrorist attack.
The players have also been told that they should not leave their hotel rooms, due to the massive crime rate in the city.
I get that the NFL wants to grow their brand globally but this particular location seems like a really bad idea.
Yeah I agree the NFL should have picked a better place given the current climate in Brazil and around the world.
Especially since they just banned X in their country and someone caught using a VPN to access face fines and jail time. All the reporters can’t use it for the game.
There have been numerous reports of safety concerns about this game. Especially given the current state of the country so anyone comparing this to bad sections of Chicago are just not informed of the current situation which I won’t get into because we don’t do politics on the board.
But I have been following what issues are down there for a few years now and I think the NFL made a mistake in not worrying about player safety:
It’s all the phat Brazilian booty, ain’t it? I’ve seen the girls on Ipanema beach and they are definitely carrying around some wmd’s down there. Not a bad way to go thiugh, all things considered.
If anyone here has not watched City of God I highly recommend it. Now 20 years old but rewatched it once again 6 months ago and still IMO holds up as a heroic cinematic achievement IMO
