The phantom tripping penalty

Much has been made of the fact that the Cowboys shouldn’t have been assessed a tripping penalty (agree), but some have said that the ref “missed” a tripping call on Aidan Hutchinson.

I’ve watched the video several times and looks like a swing and a miss. Hendershot isn’t tripped at all. There appears to be no contact between the two whatsoever (which also makes the penalty against him even more mystifying).

It’s not a trip. He went for it but he didn’t hit anything.

He is hooked by Hendershott. Easily could have been a hold.

In this day and age with pass rushers getting mugged? That’s not a hold either.

as we have seen with the nfl, it most certainly should have been called tripping on hutch.

Just like the face mask against aaron rodgers. totally legit.

Umm

Rewatched the game last night on nfl network and continued to replay certain plays in slow motion . The tripping penalty was one of them . The poster is correct in saying the hutch completely and utterly wigged on his attempt, hutch did this in ( I believe in my belief) in retaliation . The tackle not only hooked hutch but he did trip hutch . That’s why immediately after the play hutch his pointing at him. Hate to say it but it Was the right call and actually a good catch by the ref.

He kind of karate kicks toward the 28 yard line and over the stripe, but Hendershot was well to his left. Hutch hit nothing but air.

But Hendershott’s arm bar seems pretty blatant to me.

I think the ref probably just said the wrong jersey number as a Dallas OG actually tripped a Lions DT on that play. I think he could have let it go, personally, as if that was the trip he meant to call it was ticky-tack. But whatever, Dallas gets away with murder in that stadium.

It’s just more “what-about-isms and false equivalences. Most Lions fans have gotten over it. Cowboy fans who have had to hear about how they unjustly won haven’t.

I think you’re right. Ref goes for the flag when he see’s Dallas’s 70 swinging his legs around to trip our 79.

It’s a strange position to take rather than just want consistent transparent reffing.

I still think Dallas fans should be pissed because it robbed Dal of a potential MVP moment if he leads a comeback. That would’ve been huge for a his chances to win.

Mystery solved.

I have to point out, after having to see the interception over and over and over in the course of trying to find where the tripping was…

Goff’s throw to LaPorta there was the same short pass that crushed our 3rd attempt at a 2-point conversion. I want to see him put a good game together in the WildCard round (at least) so we don’t have all off-season debating whether he can get the job done in the face of pressure. He can do better. He knows he can do better and was visibly upset with his throw on those attempts. If we don’t win in the playoffs, you know there’s going to be a lot of chatter around Goff again.
