The World Cup

What a win! Had to face some adversity but pulled through. Monday night became that much more difficult without Balogun. Let’s keep it rolling! :united_states:

Is that a thing? Can/do they do that kind of thing in this tourney?

They can, and probably will.

They need the USA money. Balogun will play the next game.

Maybe not, seems FIFA in its wisdom neglected to include a review process:

That said it’s FIFA, no organization breaks more rules and flaunts the fact that they do so, and you can bet the full power of the US will be brought to bear.

Good company:

I don’t understand why he has to be suspended for the next match anyway. You get a red card and you get kicked out of the game. Why does it have to be anything more than that??

Apparently there was an era where the game was quite thuggish and you had hockey-style enforcers who would just get deliberate reds toward the end of games. As with a lot of things, the few ruined it for the many

All pro sports are rigged and scripted bud

If you can gamble on it, you can be sure it’s manipulated for money

The same people banging on soccer for the uneven officiating are the same ones that sit and watch the Lions get screwed on a weekly basis by NFL officials. It’s what happens when you have the human element. Did you guys think soccer was any different?

Kinda like American football.

Dude you are missing quite a few games/tournaments.

You have

1- League Play
2- based on how you finish you qualify for an additional “league” (Champions League or Europa and i thnink a 3rd)
3- you then have the Copa of the country you live in (a huge tournament that involves every soccer team in the coutry no matter how bug or small)
4- and I feel like there is another one that is tied to FIFA but maybe that is just countries…

It took me years to unravel it as the whole Champions League and you local Country League games had me completely confused.

Any relation to Santa?

Thought you’d all enjoy this one …

Yeah, it’s a bit strange to me to hear people claim futbol is unwatchable because of the officiating.

It’s literally the same complaint millions of fans have across all major sports, esp. the NFL.

I get it though, and I’ve been a fan for 25+ years. Investing energy into something that is so easily manipulated is hard to overcome, and unlike most American sports, the scoring is so low that all of those decisions take on more meaning (which of course is WHY it’s so prevalent).

Good point on the scoring.

We’re starting to see diving creeping into the NHL. I put it down to all the European players in the league now. Only half kidding. That’s after the world adopted the rugged Canadian style of play, a can’t beat join em thing. It used to be, and mostly still is, a badge of honour to get some stitches on your face or spit out a tooth and get back out there.

As someone who has watched soccer since the days of the Detroit Express and Trevor Francis, the theatrics on a foul is ridiculous. Players realize that if they can sell the idea of damn near having their leg broken by a player, they can convince an official to give a player a red card. Play has gotten more physical but the theatrics are just as bad.
