Mbappe is unreal
Glad to see LES BLEU win. Just puzzled why Morocco stayed back so much when they know France will eventually score with their firepower.
Get the 1st goal and see how France reacts.
The top teams are making their way into the next round.
From the beginning it was always going to be these teams in the semis:
France
Spain
Argentina
Now the 4th team I would have guessed England but Norway is on fire. Haaland is proving to me once again that at the end of the day soccer is a contest between the best strikers in the world. It is practically all about 1 player. Worse than the NBA.
Get 10 dudes to play tough and then give me one of the 4 best goal scorers in the world and I will make it to the semis. If the USA had Mbappe they are in the Semis. OK maybe not quite after that shit show against Belgium but I think we all can see it. And honestly Norway proves this theory 100%.
Curious how many of you are still watching the world cup now that the US is out?
I watched maybe 20min of the entire event, still the most soccer I have watched in my 60yrs on this planet.
A lot depends on whether or not a person played the game in their youth. USA and Canada are doing more of that now so expect numbers to go up in the future
As for this world cup, I expect anyone who watched their team until elimination will still watch the final but will be less interested in the other games.
I’ve watched pretty much the entire thing. However, I also coach HS soccer and still play the sport. I watch soccer pretty much year round. Saturdays and Sundays in the fall are amazing. Wake up with some European soccer and then follow it up with college football or NFL.
I will watch as much as possible. The issue I have is I am up on a lake and so the game times stink. But I do enjoy good soccer. And they is as good as it gets as far as intensity.
And to be fair I am a star chaser. I like watching the best Goal scorers. So I am more interested in watching France and Agentina and Norway than any other teams outside of the USMNT. The USA team has maybe 4 players that are truly World Class. And I am not sure if any can impose their will on a game. Maybe McKennie or Dest are solid. Pulisic when 100% healthy has shown that ability and then Robinson. After that the team is meh. USMNT needs a team od 11 that have the ability to win 1v1 battles before that can make any noise and for sure a top 10 striker if they ever want to make it to the semis.
I root for the US but they aren’t near the caliber of the top teams. Belgium/Spain today will be a lot of fun to watch. So much talent on both sides.
Agree while I do not think Spain has the sexy stars at this World Cup (they have some youngsters that will likely be the ones next WC) I love how Spain plays. When they are in the groove it is very silky and smooth. Truly hive mind play with players seemingly working off one sheet of music as they say.
Soccer and the NFL have that in common. When the best teams are cooking the players just seem to move and make plays that defy logic on how they can know where to be.
My buddies and I got into soccer during the last world cup four years ago, and I’m watching basically every game I can. Especially if there’s nothing else on.
I’m a bit less interested in it now that the U.S. is out, obviously, but I’ll keep watching.
Haaland is outstanding but having Odegaard helps them a lot too. He’s really good in his own right.
Despite the many obvious differences, if there’s any sport soccer reminds me of, it’s hockey. But I’m not interested in getting deep into regular Euro league play, so my interest will remain on the World Cup every four years.
Fair enough
What I love about Haaland is he kind of proves if you focus on scoring and not flopping things can go quite well for you.
He goes beast mode at all times. He would be a damn good TE or Power Forward.
And as my buddy and I joke.
What would Haaland be if he was not a soccer superstar??? A virgin ![]()

he is a goofy looking bastard, I have decided he has pure Viking blood and looks going for him
If that were true Sweden (with Ibrahimovich) and Poland (with Lewandowski) would have been much better. Ivory Coast with Drogba, Bulgaria with Berbatov, Egypt with Salah, etc…
Frankly to me Norway is something of an outlier, though as @HSVLion pointed out having someone like Odegaard as second fiddle is unusually strong too.
I think he looks like what the Targaryens were supposed to look like. They were described as being much stranger looking in the books (due to years of inbreeding).
Nyland (Norway GK) has also been phenomenal in the knockout stage.
He was so shit for Villa. Where was this guy 6 years ago? (Though he did lead us to sign Emiliano Martinez, who has been pretty damn great).
When I first saw him. I thought he was Brady Tkachuk. Both are around 6 ft 5. Check the DNA.
Damn, I don’t even remember him at Villa.
He was mostly our top backup but forced into action that covid season played before empty stadiums.
