The Yankees New Torpedo Bats

So apparently the Yankees paid some guy to study barrel rates and where balls hit on the barrel. They made a bat that has more barrel moved down from the top of the bat.

They are hitting homeruns at a historical rate, and it kind of feels unfair. I wonder if it will get banned by MLB.

here is a picture.

That’s cool. They’re reducing the rotational inertia of the bat.

Funny they just hit 7 bombs the other day

9 bombs yesterday, 4 more today.

They won 12 to 3 today
They won 20 to 9 yesterday

I was reading an interview with one of the Milwaukee RP’s…he is livid about it.

So the bat need either be banned or every team should do it

Don’t get why other teams don’t just get them. But don’t follow baseball enough to understand. Maybe someone can explain.

How is there not a set standard for equipment???

Those are good questions.

I don’t know the answer.

There is a rule:

  • MLB Rule 1.10(a):

The rule states that bats must be “one piece of solid wood” and cannot be hollowed, corked, or filled with any alien substance.

I always wondered what would happen if you powder coated a bat.

It sounds like they customized bats to each player that wanted one. That’s moneyball territory. Aaron Judge says he’s not using one.

Yea that’s my take too. They won’t be ahead of the curve long. Also screw the Yankees.

Only team to figure out. These bats swing better or is it a new because no cork in the bat

Apparently they have been around for a few years… The Jays have 1 guy who uses one too. But the Yanks have by far the most players.

They are made of birch not maple.

Only 2 of the 9 HR yesterday were torpedos.

Not sure about today.

I was listening to an analysis of it and basically it is a trade-off between a little bit lower exit velocity maximum off of a bat that shape versus a larger area with more of the mass down the barrel towards the label where more balls are hit so basically extending the barrel sweet spot at the price of the tip and the ability to create maximum EV. They ran the stats in The Sims and tested it and found out that the net was an advantage

Yea seems very overly hyped by the media opening weekend. Any player around mlb has access to these same bats.

So the team that had a 5-0 lead in the world series…only to torpedo their shot at the title…is now the leader of torpedo technology?
