So apparently the Yankees paid some guy to study barrel rates and where balls hit on the barrel. They made a bat that has more barrel moved down from the top of the bat.
They are hitting homeruns at a historical rate, and it kind of feels unfair. I wonder if it will get banned by MLB.
I was listening to an analysis of it and basically it is a trade-off between a little bit lower exit velocity maximum off of a bat that shape versus a larger area with more of the mass down the barrel towards the label where more balls are hit so basically extending the barrel sweet spot at the price of the tip and the ability to create maximum EV. They ran the stats in The Sims and tested it and found out that the net was an advantage
