I thought Levi did well the last two years after losing a couple of years to a back issue. Well enough that I thought Brad would have locked him up with a reasonable extension. However, it has occurred to me that the real issue may revolve around BroMart. If BroMart has developed into a player in the coaches’ eyes, they may decide that Levi is expendable. I know BroMart didn’t show up much last year and Levi was good (not great, though), but I don’t know what has been going on with BroMart.

After Milton Williams he’s probably the second best interior pressure guy on the market. Tea leaves are suggesting a FA market in which teams are spending big money. If so, Justin Rogers prediction of 3/45m likely becomes reality. I highly doubt that we’re in it at that price.

Levi is gonna get paid more than we want to pay. Don’t think BroMart is the reason though. Between Alim and Levi we chose Alim.

BroMart was a healthy scratch when we badly needed help on the D-Line at the end of the season, if the coaches weren’t confident in him then I don’t think they’re going to have any more now.
That’s not to say I think BroMart is done, we’ve had several players make a leap in year 3 in Detroit (Barnes, Iffy, Jamo, Anzalone, Rodrigo), but right now he’s not done anything to merit assuming he’s going to have a big role.

The issue for Bromart is he is a backup nose tackle only. Can’t play any other positions and doesn’t play special teams. If he’s active how many snaps is he getting over Reader? Not many. Difficult to dress him when you have guys like Paschal, Levi amd Alim who can all play multiple positions. Even when we had all the injuries Bromart couldn’t help cause he doesn’t play any of those positions.

That is my main concern. As big as he is, he would crush the edge. How has he not picked that up? You’d think he would be a natural wide 9, to look at him.

He did lose a lot of weight last off-season.
The bromart experiment has run it’s course. He may can be had in a trade. Baring a miracle he may not make it through training camp. Levi wants to get paid…Lions have told him what they will offer him, they won’t budge, he is going to test the market and see what he can get. Think Jamal Williams scenario. This is what we will pay you. He thinks he can get more and from what I have been told it’s not even remotely close to what the lions want to pay him and what he is actually worth. The trickiness of this is the lions 100% want him back. And he is a great kid, super great kid and has worked his fing ass off to come back from devastating injury. And therein lies the rub. He has what was suppose to be a career ending injury. He more then anyone understands tomorrow in the NFL is not a guarantee and he is trying to make as much money as he can before his opportunity to make this kind of money in his life is gone. The lions can’t think like that so they are willing to pay him what they can pay a back up DL with significant injury history. It’s gonna be hard to see him come back.

When Justin first wrote/said that everyone thought it was kind of crazy. Me too. But at the same time we all have such respect for Justin that we probably all thought that he might just be right once again. We shall see. But .75x of what Dallas just paid Osa isn’t that crazy. The back is really the only reason that I don’t want to do that. Levi was really good last year IMO.

Honest question but can’t teams buy insurance on a guy with a serious back surgery? So if he gets injured the team can kinda cover their asses?
