Grammy Nominated British Metal/Deathcore/Metalcore Band “Bring Me The Horizon” was scheduled to kick off their 20th anniversary tour in America on May 2nd.
They were set to play at sold out Madison Square Garden for the first time. A “we made it” moment for music artists and bands. However. The NBA in their wisdom. Scheduled game 7 of the playoff series between Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks for the same date. Meaning if the series went 7 games. Thousands of fans would have to reschedule. Costing many of them hundreds of dollars.
So thousands of metalheads tuned into their first ever NBA game Thursday Night. Cheering on the Knicks. Thankfully they didnt have to stay up late. The Knicks were up 25 points in the first quarter with a 98%+ win probability.
The double(and triple)-booking that has seeped into our culture, from this to flights to hotels, is just wild. I’m surprised the companies doing it haven’t had to pay a steeper price for all the times it has backfired (especially airlines, where it is happening constantly), but obviously the bottom line must be stronger on the double-booking side because it is only increasing in frequency. The risk of peeving us lowly jamokes is clearly countered by the money made when they get lucky and things work out.
