If we are looking for polish then I think he’s the additional round 2 choice. I’d expect him to be a significant contributor on day 1. I’m not certain of just how high his upside is but he’s be a safe pick IMO.
Until Golladay went out you mean. When was that again?
He’s a poor man’s Devonta Smith with not nearly enough production and a slightly better frame. That’s how I see him.
Well, when you lose your best one out of the group for most of the season, that tends to change things. Even w/o Golladay, we are a top 10 passing offense, so is that weak? Also missed Amendola for 2 plus games. I know you are going to have guys get nicked, but IMHO on paper it absolutely was one of our strengths. Our one consistent WR that is always up has 55 for 667 and 6TD’s with 3 games to go.
Not that Hock is a WR, but he was absolutely part of the calculous of our passing attack and he’s having a PB season. Of all of our weaknesses on this team, our passing attack is one of the lesser problems for sure. I’d re-sign Jones at a minimum as he earns it every game. Sanu has been decent as a depth guy. I’d try to keep him in the fold too. I’d franchise and trade Golladay and replace him in the draft and bring in one good FA. Then we are not in too bad of shape IMO.
So this is what we are up against. Only 5 draft choices. We have people who want a QB in the first, a WR in the first, and arguments that ignore the fact the we are likely to be in the FA market. I would be surprised if they don’t re-sign Amendola, he was @ $5million I think last year. I would also be surprised if they didn’t make Marvin Jones some kind of offer after letting him test FA. What about Sanu? Good find, they should try and re-up him right now but can’t w/o a new GM. Cut Shelton and Williams and you save @ $8 million. Draft DL early, shore it up. We got outscored over and over after having substantial leads starting with the first game vs the Bears. We had leads in games w/o Golladay and gave them up over and over. Start in the trenches isn’t just some slogan, it’s how good teams become great teams.
Unless we trade down to add picks (an option I think), we’re not drafting a WR in round 1. So that eliminates Chase, Smith, Waddle and maybe Bateman, Marshall, Moore and Toney (who’s been in the 1st round of the past 3 midweek mocks by the Draft Network guys).
If Moore falls to us in the 2nd, I’d snatch him up. We need playmakers, and Moore’s a playmaker. But he gets hurt a lot too, so not without risk.
I’m a huge fan of Tylan Wallace, he’ll be one of the toughest guys on the team the second he’s drafted, and his work at the catch point is hard to believe for a guy his size (6’0, 185). I think his athleticism is underrated as well.
I am not as high on St. Brown or Olave, but I agree with CH about Darden, that guy’s gonna be a player in the league. Like Wallace he’s tough as nails. I think he might rise a lot by draft day, though.
This class is crazy deep, I really like Dazz Newsome and Amari Rodgers too as late round guys.
I love him too. Pretty rare combination of toughness/physicality, YAC abilities and ball tracking/hands.
I’m extending Stafford and smoothing out the 2021 cap hit first and foremost. Small tweaks of massive contracts = lots of cap relief. FA is going to be key as we will be turning over a ton of starters from a poor scheme. Franchise/Trade of Golladay gives us another high round pick. My estimation is a high 2nd. No QB for me. Daniels is too expensive, and we are likely moving to a new offensive system anyway so anything you gain in system familiarization is gone. You don’t need a 6M backup QB. But I’m not for wasting a pick on one either. Let that happen in a few years. Go get a decent vet backup for half the cost of Daniels and move on. So yes draft one WR and go FA for the rest of the fill in’s. I keep MJJr. Maybe that 2nd rounder you get from Golladay goes to a speedy slot guy to replace Amendola, then you get another FA as well. This ends up costing one of your draft picks, but wasn’t one of the original 5 you had going in. FA, 2nd round slot burner, MJJr, Cephus and Sanu. 1 new FA, 2 re-signed guys and 1 draft pick. Leaving you 5 draft picks and some cap room to move around.
There is going to be a lot of allocated salaries that will just switch out to new players that are better fits for the new schemes. First round pick can still be an impact defender. You get the WR with the 2B and still have Rd. 2 and 3 for starting players at non-QB / non-WR positions.
If we get Toney and somehow get Fields, no one would be able to tackle anyone on our team. Sign me up. Toney isn’t even on Tankathon’s board at all under the receivers they have, so maybe we should take someone to be a pass catcher.
Toney is gonna skyrocket during the pre-draft process. As I said earlier he’s been a first rounder in the past 3 TDN podcast mocks, though admittedly one of the hosts is a big Florida homer. But I think they’re right, he’s too electric with the ball in his hands to go where he’s being picked right now by most of the community.
That’s too rich for me. Toney is fun to watch and all but given the talent at the position in this draft no way would I spend a 1st on Toney.
I realize this is the same story on this board every year but unless we’re getting our QB of the future I’d like to trade down. Even if it’s just a couple spots for a few mid rounders.
If we can get more picks I’d be a fan of going the 2018 GB Packers route and taking three day three WRs (of Wallace was there at the top of round 3 I’d take him though.) That presumes we retain Golladay and Sanu or someone along those lines.
I’ve seen guys like Terry, Stevenson, et. potentially going on day three. I think round and five will have top 60-75 level WR talents in most years. Patience and redundancy in addressing that position will likely be rewarded in my opinion.
I like the kid from Indiana.
How about Nico Collins??
Mike Strachan - HUGE but raw, could be had late and super high potential.
Warren Jackson - If he runs fast he’s gonna skyrocket but dang he looks good!!
Tylan Wallace - Kid looks like Hines Ward. You’d love to have a Hines Ward on the squad, right?
I agree with the Hines Ward comp. Wallace’s toughness/physicality reminds me of him. Wallace is better in contested catch situations though.
Wop Philyor or Ty Fryfogle? It would be fitting to bring a Wop into this thing of ours.
Fryfogle.
Philpot could make a nice slot. I think both are most certainly day 3 types in this draft. Ty could climb if he tests really well but it’s my understanding that he’s not expected to post impressive times.
I like Tamorrion Terry from FSU.
I suspect he will go in the first 3 rounds if he has a decent combine. There’s somethings he needs to clean up in his game but he’s a playmaker.
What happened to him this year?
