Max Clark is fun to watch
Now, a word here about Clark.
He is easily the most interesting, fascinating personality in the Tigers system.
You could look at him and see only the sparkling necklace and the tattoos and the bright smile and the brash personality and the excitable outgoing presence and think: He’s all glitz. All style. No substance.
And you would be incredibly wrong.
First of all, he’s a heck of a talent, a truly gifted center fielder who can run, has a strong arm and can hit.
And under that outgoing, approachable, highly likeable character is a pure baseball guy. Somebody who just loves this game.
After the Tigers selected Clark at No. 3 overall in the first round in the 2023 MLB Draft, he has enjoyed successes and faced spectacular failures; I truly believe he has grown from both.

He started off the season on a tremendous hot streak, hitting .421 in his first 10 games with a .500 on-base percentage.
“I started on top of the earth,” he told me. “Just scorching. It was the best start of my career ever to start a year.”
But then, it all disappeared.
“I went ice cold,” he said. “I lost it a little bit.”
His batting average dropped, he started chasing, and his average fell even worse. In his last 10 games in April, he went 5-for-38.
“I got cold, then I started chasing the result, and you can’t chase the result because you can’t control it,” he said. “When you try to control things, you just plummet.”
The crazy thing was he didn’t exactly know what was going wrong.
“The league figures you out,” he said. “I started hot, then the league figured me out. I couldn’t figure out what they knew about me, so I had to find it myself.”
All the while, he was growing. Maturing. And developing.
Now he’s hitting .276 and he has found some power. He hit four homers in June and five in July. Not only that – he’s hitting .338 in July. Yes, he seems ready, no matter what the Tigers’ situation is.
“You learn so much about yourself, what kind of hitter you are, what you need to do to have success,” he told me.
