Tigers' Lowball Contract Offer to Tarik Skubal Reportedly Revealed amid Trade

Omg. 4 at 80m.

What an absolute joke. Cheap owner. Cheap team.
They will NEVER be a competitive team with that mindset

It also tracks with the reports that the tigers were 250+m apart.

Tigers 4 at 80
Skubal is at 8 and ~330

Before 2025 started. Let’s not think that is where they are now.

It’s still low…low low even for last offseason, coming off of a Cy year. Then they gave $5m less a year to Alex Effing Cobb to not throw one pitch all year.

I mean, that offer was a year ago. But yeah, even after last year 4/80 is laughable.

Tigers aren’t serious about signing this guy.

Last year i could see 30 aav being a fair offer. Low yes but a starting point.

20aav you dont even answer the phone.

Flairty is gonna make 20m+ next year

Also, they start high, Tigers start low. Normal process. It’s still too low to start. I used to hate lowball offers though. Pissed me off and poisoned the well more often than not. These guys (Harris/Boras) dont get butthurt about offers. They get emotional but not FU emotional.

Yea thats how negotiations go.

I could see it going

Tigers 5 at 150
Borris at 10 at 400 and meet somewhere in the middle.

But not 4 at 80. Jesus.

Just to make sure I’m understanding, the Tigers offered him 20m per season? :eyes:

If they dont trade him now. Im rooting for the Blue Jays. We already know hes gone. If they let him play out because we’re “contenders”. They’re hopeless.

People need to accept the fact that he gone!

Take your 400 million elsewhere….

The return is gonna be glorious…(I hope)

Yea they arnt trade him away. Because he sells tickets.

And they arnt gona spend that 300m+ elsewhere.

This team is doing just enough to be a bubble team. Sell tickets. And make money. Spend NONE

Blue Jays sounding better every day. I get me a Kirk jersey and use it as a tent.

Then Harris is a â– â– â– â– â– â– â–  dumb ass. Chris got lucky he was raised rich.

This seems like stupidity on the Tigers part. What’s the angle? What good could come of this? Do they think he is stupid or something? Any agent worth his salt knows that it is out of bounds, so I don’t see how this is effective negotiation.

Its not. Tigers did just enough to say “ok we tried”

Make Skubal a martyr. Sell hope of the prospects. And do nothing in the winter but sign a few over the hill bandaids.

It was a poor offer but people are taking it out of context.

Skubal was still subject to arbitration and had made $2.65M in 2024.

The Tigers were trying to entice him to take 2 years security (at above market rates) while he was still under their control and give them 2 years of his free agency. They should have known he wouldn’t take that with Boras as his agent.

Skubal turned it down and played for $10M in 2025 and will play for $22.5M in 2026.
Turning down the deal has cost Skubal $7.5M so far but he will likely get +$40M for 2027 and beyond if he stays healthy in 2026.
