I was really starting to like Kelly.
I’m excited to see Dingler though.
Finally get to see Dingler
I know not the same name
7:00pm: The teams have announced the trade. Texas’s 40-man roster now stands at 40 following the addition of Kelly.
6:56pm: The Tigers are getting catching prospect Liam Hicks and right-handed pitching prospect Tyler Owens in exchange for Kelly, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.
6:36pm: The Rangers are acquiring catcher Carson Kelly from the Tigers, per a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The return headed back to Detroit in exchange for Kelly’s services is not currently known.
Neither guy shows up in the Texas top 30, so I’m guessing these guys are more organizational depth than anything. Especially since they have been in the minors for 4, and 5 years already.
It’s about all I would have expected for Kelly.
Hicks- plus hit tool, minus everything else
Owens- Throws hard. Average results. PitchLab may find him a second pitch to be a 7th inning guy
They are both in the 20 - 50 prospect range who are all fungible
Tigers see something
Thats a good breakdown I think. Owens can touch 99 with the fastball, he just doesn’t have anything else going for him.
I highly doubt we will ever see either one of them in the big league’s, and that’s ok with me. There was barely a catchers market this year, and we took what we could get.
We really needed to open a spot for Dingler, and we accomplished that.
Tigers added another Canadian to the farm team. Hicks from TO.
Owens, 23, owns a 2.80 ERA with nine walks and 35 strikeouts across 35â…“ innings in 26 relief appearances with Double-A Frisco. He throws a fastball, slider, cutter and splitter. His fastball sits around 95 mph but has maxed out at 99 mph.
Most importantly, his fastball generates swings and misses.
Owens is expected to develop into a big-league reliever, but he could be a candidate to stretch out as a starter in the future with a four-pitch mix if he finds a way to improve against left-handed hitters and maintain his velocity in longer outings.
He added a splitter, which seems like the best way to solve the struggles against lefties, but he hasn’t fully developed the new offspeed pitch yet. He rarely throws it, and it doesn’t generate many whiffs.
Hicks, 25, has a .260 batting average with four home runs, 41 walks and 44 strikeouts in 80 games in Double-A Frisco. He makes smart swing decisions and produces above-average contact rates, but the downside is poor contact quality. The poor contact quality likely holds him back from developing into a starter or a backup at the highest level, giving him Triple-A upside.
at 23 his window pretty much starts now imo.
hicks at 25? I mean…maybe? bench guy? at that old in the minors that long doesn’t bode incredibly well.
Dingler was called up so here we go
I don’t follow baseball that closely but it seems that the Tigers are a AAAA club for the rest of the league.
They’ve been brutal the last decade, but there’s some good glimpses into the future. Pitching is pretty decent and there’s a few bright spots in Greene, Keith, and even Vierling. A few studs brewing in the minors as well.
Yea, not.
What number screen name is this for you now?
