Scouting report

:arrow_forward: Olson, Tigers: The Gainesville, Georgia, native has never pitched in his home state. He did pitch against the Braves once at Comerica Park and it went poorly (seven runs, six earned, in 3.1 innings). He’s fighting his way out of a rough patch. In his three starts in June, he’s allowed 18 runs (17 earned) in 14.2 innings. He had allowed one home run in his first 56.1 innings. He’s allowed three this month.

:arrow_forward: Fried, Braves: He got dinged by the Orioles last time out (four runs in five innings), but in the five starts prior to that he was spot-on, allowing just six earned runs in 35.1 innings with 35 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .187 average. Left-handed hitters, though, are vexing him. In 70 plate appearances, they are slashing .375/.429/.547 doing big damage against his four-seam (.636), sinker (.368) and cutter (.500).

Lets hope the bad Fried shows up tonight. If he brings his good stuff, this will be hard to watch.

Man being 1 and 8 with sub 4 era… that’s a real kick in the nuts for a starting pitcher

Before his last 3 starts, he was 1 and 5, with a sub 2 era.

I’m hoping it’s just a bad streak, but he hasn’t looked good at all lately.

Amazing what a couple bad starts can do to an era. They sure go from elite to average fast.

Olson was amazing tonight

His last start was good iirc, tonight was as well, although I didn’t start watching til the sixth.

He gave up 10 hits, 2 walks, and 5 runs in 5.1 innings in his last start.

Not really good at all, but better than his previous 2 stsrts.

Another day, another 2-1 loss

We might see the best pitching matchup of the year today. Both guys can make a legitimate claim that they are the best pitchers in baseball right now.

I had high hopes for this series. We cannot hit a baseball when we need to. When was the last time we won a series? Ugh, even Skubal getting roughed up lately.

Skubal has the exact same approach & delivery that he’s had all year, and he hasn’t lost any velocity at all.

At this point, I’m really wondering if he’s tipping his pitches.

Or he’s just going through a rough patch, like everyone does.

One of the earlier broadcasts they mentioned that Skubal had tipped his pitches in a game or two and corrected the issue. So there is a chance he is doing it again.

You killed the blue jays… lol

Jays got swept by the Red sox too.

If we combined the Jays and Tigers best players on to 1 team I’m sure they could finish 4th and play .500 baseball in the AL east. :joy: Might even beat Orioles once or twice in a 4 game series.

I’m actually more worried about Flaherty. His last start looked good, but the average velocity on his fastball dropped 2 mph from his previous start.

It can be explained by his long layoff of course, but it’s worth monitoring.

I’m worried Harris has a Troy Weaver sense of urgency and stubbornness to stick with His Plan and His Guys, even when They Suck.

If they go 8 games under, they are done. Pack it up, sell Canha, Foley, cut Baez, take offers on Flaherty and see if he is amenable to coming back in FA. Play Wenceel and Meadows in RF and CF, Carp in RF and DH. Give Kriedler his last 2 months of rope and Jung a couple months of Welcome to the Show. Let Manning and Mize throw

Decide once and for all what you have, then spend in the offseason to unfuck this shitting lineup.

This season is a lost opportunity.

Wondering if Weaver passed SVG in sucktitude. Its close. But I digress.

Any news on Tork? This line-up without him and Carpenter is about as scary as Casper the friendly ghost.

Tork looks a lot better but they are gonna try and let that success sink in and not rush him is what I read

Tork started off really hot, and his average was well north of .300 for a while.

He has put up a lot of goose eggs lately though, and his average is all the way down to .250 as a result.

I just look at the box scores, so IDK if it’s just bad luck or not. @frm710 would probably have more insight.

It’s tough because AAA success is good… but if those pitchers were any good they wouldn’t be in AAA

You can work on mechanics and try to gain confidence but when you get called up again dudes are still throwing 97 or 98 with movement.
