Scouting report
Skubal, Tigers: He is coming off back-to-back scoreless outings (14 straight innings). He’s had 12 scoreless outings of six innings or longer this season, tied with Adam Wainwright for the most since MLB lowered the mound in 1969.
Alcantara, Marlins: It took him a few months to get back in sync after missing 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery, but he’s been locked in lately. He’s lowered his ERA a full run over his last five starts (nine earned runs and 33 strikeouts in 33 innings). He still pitches off his high-velocity four-seamer (97-98 mph) and sinker (97 mph), mixing changeups, curveballs and sliders to righties and lefties. The curveball has betrayed him, especially against right-handed hitters (.328 average, .625 slug).
