For sure whoever earlier a few days ago made the call on Callahan major props. That said as I’m watching the post game interview in the locker room Ted Nugent called and he wants his shirt back from that guy
Nice

Mariners had a great night
If there is any doubt that Freddie Freeman or Matt Olson were Hall of Famers just with their bats take a look at the top of that chart
He made some significant strides last season which is when I first saw and read about him. Most recently I heard someone say he could be Kerry Carpenter with the one difference being he can play good defense. No idea if accurate.
# Wait, another Tigers rookie is making history? Yes, Brett Callahan is
It’s early. Three games. Nine at-bats. Sixteen swings.
Besides, less than a week ago, he was playing in the minor leagues. So, yeah, consider the context.
But then this run of rookies making debuts and making noise means it might be time to start reconsidering the context. At the least, it makes for a fun story. It also begs the question:
How many of these guys do the Tigers have tucked away? And since when do 13th-rounders announce themselves with a hit and at least one RBI in each of their first three games?
Obviously, Brett Callahan isn’t going to keep this up. But then his 2023 draft classmates Max Clark (No. 3 overall) and Kevin McGonigle (No. 37) have, so why not him?
Not that Callahan is asking that. Though, would you blame him? He squared a 97-mph heater down and away and yanked it into the right-field seats and then left Clark hanging with a high-five at home plate.
He didn’t see him with all the giddy in his eyes. He felt bad, for a moment, until his teammates mobbed him in the dugout and dumped sunflower seeds on his head.
It’s good to celebrate the firsts, no? Especially in this sport, where the seconds and thirds and fourths are even harder to come by.
“I knew it was gone right off the bat,” he said. “It felt good.”
Good?

Worth reading.
I saw / read those, amazing stories and have to wonder what MLB does as they already bailed out the Dodgers 15yrs ago. Would they do it again? Probably yes as the franchise history is a big part of MLB but it will be ugly and I think you can question if Skubal stays in LA after the lockout.
Man why isn’t McGonigle leading off? Swap him and Keith
In the past it all depended on the opposing starter being LH or RH on KM being in the leadoff spot. He doesn’t do as well vs one of them, good probably but not all star type KM. From memory
Jobe vs Skenes today.
I agree. I understood mostly when we were facing that gambit of lefties for like 4 games in a row, but these last 3 games have been against righties and he still kept him out of that lead off spot. And now again today. Ugh.
I think Skenes’ head is a mess right now. We really need to take advantage of it.
Pirates are 9 and 15 when Skenes starts this year. Hard to believe.
