I really donât think weâve talked about Valencia enough. Literally half of his hits are for extra bases and I donât know if with an off season the league is going to look at tape and figure him out but for 130 at bats here he has been an absolute freaking monster and I canât see anyway that the team doesnât commit 450 plate appearances to him between backup Catcher And DH next year.
And thatâs the interesting rub because only about 150 of those are going to come from catcher which means heâs your primary DH and another 100 played appearances at DH are going to go to Dingler.
So now you have the very nice and luxurious question of what the hell do we do with Kerry Carpenter/Zyhir Hope at RF/DH and Josue Briceño, let alone Thayron Liranzo? Valencia is a bad bad catcher, but 350/391/617 for 1.007 before the walkoff todayâŠno one sits that.
Briceño and Liranzo start at AAA and Carp/Hope works itself out in camp? If they DH platoon Carpenter and Valencia itâs almost criminal because Valencia is going to be the short side and yes heâll get at that catcher but maybe itâs the whole he has success because he doesnât play everyday and people donât see him everyday and he doesnât get worn down? If they think that way then Carpenter gets half the DH PAs and spells Hope?
Valencia is hitting like a straight up all star stud, albeit one without a defensive home. It sure would be nice to not have to pay for a free agent power back and have this power platoon situation between catcher first base DH in right field among five guys and then have your better all around hitters spread out across the rest of the diamond.

2 WS Rings, 2 Cys 1 No hitter elsewhere. 15 Black Ink(in 1/3 the games) but also significantly better ERA win% K rate and WHIP as an Astro than as a Tiger and did it when he was older.
Closer than one would think, but a Tiger yeah.

Beautiful scene with Justin & his daughter for Tiger fans everywhere. I really love the way the Tigersâ org leans into these types of special situations, like with Miggyâs retirement. The Tigers are very, very good at connecting with their fans.

Looks like we finished with the 7th draft slot, and a 39% chance to move up.
I think McGonigle winning the ROY is a wrap, giving us another first round pick.
We also will get another competitive balance pick around the first or second round, assuming that doesnât change with the new CBA.
Gonna be a very fun draft.
