Scouting report for Friday’s Detroit Tigers-Boston Red Sox game
-
Casey Mize, Tigers: This is Mize’s fourth start of the season. Two of the first three were impressive, including last time out, when he held the Miami Marlins to one run on six hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out five and walked only one. His only clunker this season was two starts against the Twins in Minneapolis, where it was frigid and he was struggling to get a good feel for his bread-and-butter strikeout pitch, the splitter.
-
Ranger Suarez, Red Sox: It was a rude start to his Boston career for Suarez, who signed a six-year, $140-million contract this offseason. He didn’t make it out of the fifth inning in either of his first two starts with the Red Sox. But he was back on point last time out, throwing six shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six.
