Tigers vs Royals: July 23-26

I sure hope they keep him. The division sucks so bad.

Tiger hitters proving if you’re a starting pitcher, you have to be damn near perfect to have a chance at a win.

Tiger hitters have 2 hits since the first inning.

My brother is at the game in the club seats behind the plate and said Skub looks absolutely nasty and that he did not bring enough heart pills to sit through Jansen

Nice win. Skubal and pitching staff come through in front of 40K according to mlb. Going to need some runs for the two weekend games if they want the sweep.

Was trying to talk myself into offloading Skub and getting a haul for the future… but damn… think it’s time for the new Mr. I to open the checkbook…

I heard the spreadsheets say the Tigers have to pass 6 teams and play like .700 baseball just to make a Wild Card appearance.

They are a FULL 3.5 games back… with ONLY 58 games left.

Waaaayyyy too late!

1 game back of being the first team out of the playoffs, meaning by tomorrow, it’s possbke they only have to pass 1 team.

Sox, Indians and Twins lose.

from the News:

If anyone claims they know what the Tigers will do at the trade deadline in nine days, they’re lying. Or guessing. But one thing that’s not a lie or a guess – the Tigers have won enough lately to increase the viability of keeping Skubal through the season, before he heads to free agency. Some people hate hearing the possibility, that team president Scott Harris could pass on dealing Skubal for a bounty of talent and let him leave for nothing. (A bounty, by the way, that nobody can quantify in baseball’s uncertain economic times).

It’s a fair debate, with no obvious solution. But it’s silly to ignore what’s happening, as Skubal keeps heaving fastballs and the Tigers keep winning. This is more than a blip now. The Tigers aren’t even .500 at 50-54, but since June 1, they’re 28-16, second-best record in the majors behind Milwaukee. You can dismiss it as a one-month marvel, but then you’d have to brand their miserable 6-22 May as a one-month mess.

In the aggregate, in an extremely weak A.L., the Tigers are 3.5 games out of a playoff spot, with a favorable schedule looming.

They entered Saturday five games behind the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central, and 3½ games out of the AL’s third and final wild-card spot (behind the Red Sox, who have won 16 out of 17 games). FanGraphs gave them a 41.5% chance to make the playoffs (second in the Central and fifth in the AL), a 15% chance to win in the ALDS (where the Tigers have lost each of the past two postseasons), a 7.9% chance to win the ALCS (fourth-best in the AL) and a 3.7% to win the World Series (third in the AL).

What else would we need to attach with Skubal for the Dodgers to give up De Paula?

I doubt they’d do it but it’s worth a conversation.

Personally i would try and work a deal with Seattle around Skubal for Anderson

Would love a Skubal/Witherspoon for Hancock/Anderson trade

Mariners get an Ace and a prospect like Witherspoon who is #7 in our farm system for one of their pitchers in the majors and their top prospect in Anderson

Mariners could roll with Skub/Gilbert/Kerby/Miller/Woo which is a great 1-5 pitching rotation they also get Witherspoon who may be a year or 2 away

Might be a steep price for Seattle but you are getting a true Ace and Skubal did pitch at Seattle University so maybe he is willing to stay in Seattle long term

Attach a note from Philly and Atlanta with their offers. Gotta beat them to get Skub!

No Tork and No Dingler today…. Don’t these guys realize my fantasy team is tied right now

Mr Bean Wtf GIF

So you bench them and then they pinch hit in the eighth inning with Dingler hitting a go ahead grand slam.

That’s why you get paid the big bucks

And Keith leading off today. Seemed weird until I looked and saw he’s hitting .300+ against Wacha.
