Hes very much startable, with some drawbacks, but he can play NCB out of the gate imo

Douglas would be a no-brainer and really solidify the CB room. Itās certain that Brad has considered him, no word of meaningful contact at this point. Would not be surprised to see him signed soon ahead of camp. Also would not be surprised if Brad thinks heās got enough corners, which would be worrisome. Canāt have enough of them, for one. And heās been burned before by not adding enough talent to a group, see DE.
My prediction is Brad will try to sign him. If Douglas doesnāt trying to squeeze him too hard, he will be a Lion. Just my gut feeling here.
32 year old CBs are rarely a no brainer. If weāre playing like we have been playing then pass IMO. If weāre going to play a ton of zone then a wily vet with playmaking chops and the play in front of him has some appeal.
Yeah, fair enough. But Douglas had a strong season last year and seems to have tread left. And in the role you describe - which weāre all hoping will be a big part of the scheme this year - he could be a great fit.
My thinking is Brad must be looking hard at adding a starting level CB at this point. I think the last thing he wants to face is a rash of injuries at the position and deal with the backlash of not doing enough once again. Heās got a lot of guys who can play, but how many are plus starters like Douglas could be.
Itās a long season and some attrition is expected. Better to add a vet sooner than later. Otherwise heās got to make a trade and cough up draft capital.
My bet is he waits until cuts
He will pick up cheap depth

Late career CB tread trends cliff rather than slope downward.
Though my opinion would vary a ton depending on asking price and our degree of coverage scheme evolution.

Iād just rather take a chance on a vet (assuming they really are transition to heavy zone coverages), get him in camp and comfortable with the coaches and ready to roll come September.
The table is set for a deep playoff run. Better health, probably better coaching on both sides of the ball. Favorable schedule. If Iām Brad Iām proactive here, but I do see the case for Brad taking a wait and see as far as cuts etc. The kicker for me is Brad has been burned before by this approach and taken a lot of heat for it. Not that I think heās all that reactive to outside pressure, heās shown that heās not really. Just a hunch and I could be dead wrong.
Douglas can play safety as well as corner, so thatās another plus.
