I did my best Charles Rodgers impression and broke my left collarbone yesterday (car accident). I know I’m being silly, but does anyone have any good tips for speeding up the recovery? Golf league starts in 4 1/2 weeks
I don’t believe I’ll need surgery, it just hurts like a mother fker.
Been about 20 years since I broke mine, but was back playing basketball in a month, so could be doable based on how it broke (mine was complete). Only tip I have is to make sure and stay on your back while sleeping. Turning onto your side, while wonderful, slows down recovery. Or at least it did for me.
Ouch… sorry to hear. Best tip is probably rest and don’t be a hero.
Just keep it in a sling for as much as possible. Limit motion.

switch hands.

Do what jack fox would do… rub some dirt on it and get back out there!
Serious note sorry to hear that,
As you would for any other broken bone, start on a regimen of vitamins and diet high in protein, amino acids, and calcium. Keep the pain meds to an absolute bare minimum. The pain will help you not to do stupid things. Good luck buddy!
Thanks guys… I’m struggling without the pain meds, but it’s only been a day… I’ll definitely adjust the diet, I still have to work, but should be able to limit it to driving/towing trailers. I’m mostly upset at myself ![]()
Get some and take as needed…but be careful with these.
Walk the Line or else you risk a temporary set back being a long term addiction problem
First question is…
Your doctor didnt give you meds ro deal with the pain?
I find that unlikely, but maybe I am wrong…
Broke mine in 1980 when I was drunk driving my motorcycle and missed a turn. Took mine about 8 weeks to heal and had a sling on it for awhile. Laid mostly in bed for the first week. But mine was broke real bad and it had to heal overlapping like the ends of your finger tips over each other. Good to go now though and never had any problems since it healed. Good luck
Have not had a broken collarbone but my first tip would be to ask a doctor about what is the best way to move treatment along/speed up recovery.
broke mine when I was 8 playing football in the front yard
remember this, like all things, will pass
Hope you heal up in time for golf
Another thought is reaching out to Aaron Rodger’s and seeing if he has any stardust or other natural remedies.
You’re basically ■■■■■■. I studied for the GRE and improved my finger-style guitar playing.
The nerve damage takes FOR-■■■■■■■-EVER to heal
Bones do heal…maybe not correctly without a doctor overseeing and a cast on…but it will heal
I heard smoking crack helps speed things along…
Oh you weren’t asking what worked for Chucky Rog…
I didn’t break my clavicle…. but I had bone spurs on it at the AC joint.
Those bone spurs then irritated my rotator cuff, which caused pain and some tingling down to my finger tips.
Had my shoulder scoped to remove bone spurs, and the surgeon also shaved off some of the end of my clavicle.
That was 16 years ago… and it still doesn’t feel good to sleep long on my side.
Also…. golf requires the shoulder girdle to rotate significantly during a swing… so I would imagine it might take a while to feel comfortable playing a round of golf.
Broke mine twice … well technically 3 times because I rebroke it once before it was completely healed. Mine were all back in the 80’s.
Eat and drink food high in calcium.
Limit movement
Don’t play sand lot football because it feels better.
They prescribed me muscle relaxers, Robaxin? But I didn’t fill the prescription until today, I have hydros for my back (old injury that flares up from time to time)
