That must have been an oversight on his part. There’s no way he didn’t mention the Lions as a top 6 team intentionally, Herbie is generally a smart football guy.
I agree with him that the Niners are the team to beat. They’re the champs with the same group back, they should be the favorites.

3 NFC teams have beaten them already (Rams, Vikings and Cardinals).
It’s so early and teams can change for the better or worse by the time the playoffs begins.
These games are just for positioning and seeding.
The Lions need to just keep grinding, win the division and beat Dallas & SF when they play them head to head. That will set them up for home playoff games and maybe even a 1st rd bye.
Just keep getting better and be playing your best football from Thanksgiving forward.

For my money Herby is the best analyst in TV right now. But this I wouldn’t read too much into it. The Lions are a favorite to get to the Super Bowl and that has been established throughout the media. Hearing what Herby said and to put it into context (as we all like to say on this board) I think he was talking about the teams who aren’t expected to get to the Super Bowl but will challenge for a playoff spot

Ryan Clark and Chris Canty gave Lions some respect this AM… as they discussed how all 4 of the Lions opponents this season have lost their game the week after getting physically pounded by the Lions. They even mentioned that Bucs, and Seahawks losses the week after Lions were upsets to Broncos and Giants.

Was listening to sports radio on my way to work and running errands and all they talked about was the 49ers
To be fair it was the morning after their game which was the only one played and was played against the “local team”.

Yea Chris Long has been talking about that for a couple weeks. Think he’s calling it the “Dan Campbell Hangover” or something like that. Said it happened against teams playing SF a few years ago as well. Pretty awesome.
