I do not think Stafford is deserving of Boos. He’s a good dude.
That said, I’m interested in what Ford Field will actually do.
A few at least will Boo Stafford when he is on the field. Will it affect him? Good or Bad?
If the whole stadium started booing whenever he takes the field, would that dishearten him or piss him off to do better?
I feel like it will be unsettling at the least to hear a crazy loud lions fanbase when he is on offense no matter what. Maybe he heard enough boos during the Patricia era anyway.
Before the game he’s going to get an ovation. I will be shocked. After kickoff different story. I still don’t expect boos. McVay is likely getting booed though.
Nobody is going to boo Stafford, he will get cheered before the game. This isn’t a Stafford homecoming he plays for the other team. Just like any opponent we face at home, especially in this game the crowd is going to be loud when his offense is on the field.
The way many teams have been handling it (the NBA included) is to praise the guy and even show a tribute video for him. Then give him a standing ovation. Then as soon as the game starts, he gets treated like every other player.
This is exactly what I would expect other than the fact that this is a playoff game.
The NBA has the luxury of every team playing at least one away game against every team every year. That way, if a player moves in the offseason, they are guarenteed to at least have their team play in the player’s old building prior to the playoffs where they can receive this kind of tribute.
The NFL obviously isn’t like that. I have absolutely no idea how the fans are going to handle it. The thing that would surprise me least is a slight majority being boos. I personally wouldn’t boo him, but I’m not going to be in the building.
I feel like a false narrative is being created here. We all cheered for Stafford when he won the SB. Our love for Stafford is clear and doesn’t need to be justified. Understand this, we root for the name on the front of the Jersey not the back of it. I want the Lions to kick the Rams ass on the field point blank!
He should be boo’d mercilessly. Next season when Lions host Rams Lions should have a great video tribute for him and get a standing ovation from fans. After that is done he should be boo’d mercilessly.
I’m with you. I don’t expect him to get the kind of treatment that Russ Wilson got from the stadium PA guys, and I expect our fans to be welcoming up until kickoff at which point it’s time to be out for blood.
that would be incredibly tone deaf to do before our first home playoff game in 30 years
How do you think Goff is going to feel if he leads the team to its first division title in eons and they start the game my playing a tribute video to the last QB. The QB your old team cast you aside for
When in doubt, stay classy.
The only thing Matt ever did “wrong” (from the Lions vantage point) was ask to be traded after 12 years and 3 HC’s, the last of which was Patricia, who broke the team.
