Tyreek Hill Arrested

If we stay on brand here we should see footage of Tua jumping a speed boat off of a wake by Wednesday.

I hope all the details come out on this. Thereā€™s a lot of rumorsā€¦ā€¦ Like he was doing 65 in a 60 mph zone.

However video shows 4 cops detain him and handcuff him. Then it appears one cop actually kicked him while he was down in handcuffs.

This could turn into another Scotty Scheffler type of situation.

Interested to see this video. He is well within his rights to get in a verbal altercation with cops. Now if he failed to ID, thats another matter. But if a normal traffic stop ends in cuffs, somebody screwed up.

2 1/2 is the Over/under on how many times Tyreek used the phrase ā€œDo you know who I am?ā€

  • At least 3, Cā€™mon now
  • Under, Probably didnā€™t even say it once . . . Angel

No, you really donā€™t. Especially not if youā€™re a young Black man.

Iā€™m not saying Hill or the cops are at fault here. I have zero idea. But given all we know about the abuses young men of color suffer at the hands of cops (not ALL cops, but too many cops), to insist that you have to seriously misbehave to wind up in cuffs is just counterfactual. If somehow you doubt this, a million videos on YouTube - and any number of reputable studies on policing in the US - can set you straight, if youā€™re open to what they have to say.

Iā€™ve read a few articles on this incident now and itā€™s striking to me how many times this ā€œDo you know who I am?ā€ thing comes up. The reason it comes up is that people think itā€™s obnoxious (if he said it) AND, more to the point, think itā€™s relevant.

Can we agree that if Hill asked the cops a THOUSAND damn times if they know who he is, that alone shouldnā€™t come close to landing him on the ground, face-down, in cuffs?

Iā€™ve seen many of them. And youā€™ve gotten the impression Iā€™m ignorant about all of that sort of thing. Iā€™m not. There are loads of bad cops, racism is alive and well, and Iā€™ve seen enough incidents of cops trying to pull people out of cars without cause to know itā€™s real. But this is Tyreek Hill, so excuse me for thinking he might have been an ass with the cops.

Iā€™ve also had enough personal experience and seen stories of jackasses driving upscale cars recklessly, famous or not, Iā€™m happy to see them pulled over and dealt with.

No idea what happenedā€¦ But I sure donā€™t feel sorry for Tyreek ever. Any dude that strangles a pregnant lady is a piece of trash and should be in prison.

Ok. But what you said was: ā€œTo wind up in cuffs after a traffic stop, you have to be a real dick.ā€ From what youā€™re saying now, you obviously know thatā€™s not true. Regardless of what Hill did/didnā€™t do.

And even rich, entitled jerks driving recklessly can be treated badly by cops.

I also elsewhere said I donā€™t know if he was obstructing or not. I guess weā€™ll hear more details.

If someone is a rich entitled jerk, and is behaving that way toward cops, I have exactly zero ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  to give for them.

Broad daylight on the side of the road in front of hundreds of passers-by.

The simplest and most likely answer is that his being detained is a direct result of failing to comply. We can all chime in with our own prejudices, but the bodycam footage will most likely vindicate the police on this. I donā€™t care if itā€™s Tyreek Hill or Travis Kelce, this thing goes down the way it did because the dude is uncooperative and escalates the situation due to his own impatience and lack of respect.

Most likely. I worked in front line law enforcement for many years, and while some of my coworkers were dicks, most commonly itā€™s on idiots behaving like idiots. In this case, Hill will most likely get a fine and a bump in insurance rates and that will be it. Nobody ended up in a car wreck, thatā€™s the good news.

Oh boy. Only if they identify themselves as sovereign citizens.

That depends 100% on what you say. You cannot threaten harm. You can threaten to Sue or file a complaint or anything else. Threatening physical harm will get you put in cuffs. Iā€™m really interested to see if thereā€™s bodycam footage. If they kicked him while he was down (or at all really) that cop needs to face severe consequences. No excuse for that.

No excuse for any abuse of power. Should be dealt with severely.

Exactly.

ā€œMouthing offā€ is not a reason to be handcuffed, if indeed Hill did that.

Again, I see a lot of people wondering whether/how many times Hill asked if the cops knew who he was.

Iā€™ve seen/heard no one wonder whether they had legit reason to handcuff him in the first place given that they saw fit to take the cuffs off soon thereafter.
