I suppose it could be interpreted as a political statement considering the wars happening. But I agree it seems silly
On the other hand half the country lost its mind and swore off football for a while because some athletes kneeled for the Anthem. They are probably thinking to just stop any controversy before it starts

If he were waiving the peace sign at the crowd, there wouldn’t be an issue. Throwing 'em up as a taunt to the defense you just torched? Yeah, it’ll draw a flag.
