Can someone explain how UDFA signings work against roster positions? I hear people say that we have one roster spot left after signing 9 guys. I noticed that some teams like NE have signed like 17 UDFAs already. If UDFA signings count against a teams roster limit, how can a team have that many roster spots left open?

If I have it right, you should only be able to have 90 guys signed to a contract right now. The UDFA’s count as part of the 90 man roster limit.

The reason a team like the Pats probably has a ton of extra room, remember this year they have a new coach in Vrabel. They probably did some house cleaning and let a bunch of guys go, knowing they were going to begin rebuilding the roster with guys Vrabel and the new coaching staff want. Other teams are already pretty built out, or had more draft picks than the usual 7 so they would have less open spots available for UDFA’s.

So for the draft nerds… Any of these guys have any shot at cracking the 53 man roster?

I’d say the Ole Miss TE has some talent and made a lot of big first downs. I think his age is why he wasn’t drafted. He could be a 3rd or 4th TE for us.

The U Mass WR looks interesting.

If everyone is healthy.

On a 5 star scale.
5 hes making the 53.
1 no shot.

TE - Caden - 4. Third TE spot is wide open.

DBs - Holmes and Kennelly, 3/5
Lions usually carry 10-11 DBs for depth and special teams. And i only count about 8 LOCKS.

Everyone else 1. Again baring injuries

Roster full!!
Lions sign RB Kyle Robichaux - Boston College

Some Leaf vibes to him. More length and no proven return skills. But he looks like him and he moves like him.

Seems like an underwhelming UDFA class for us, maybe that’s what happens when you become as good as we are? Agents advise you to look elsewhere due to a loaded roster being harder to crack

Any UDFA here is just hoping they can land a PS spot, honestly.

Kaimon Rucker and Jared Ivey remain unsigned. Though you’re right that PS would be the most likely outcome I think both could make a run at a roster spot.

Kye Robichaux, RB, Boston College

“Relentless power back with limited explosive play ability but is a reliable and versatile option in short yardage/goal line scenarios and as an elite pass-blocking RB. Adds value as a specialized weapon in an arsenal but not as an RB1. Not a flashy player, but a guy who does add value to a squad and deserves a shot in the pros.”

“Please ignore the typo on the name, although it would make a great name for a sandwich at Eagles Deli. Kye Robichaux’s results at the pro day were somewhat mixed, albeit expected. His explosiveness scores were great, posting an elite vertical jump of 39.” But his agility times and 40-yard dash time were mediocre to below average. Given Robichaux’s profile as a downhill power back who needs a runway, these results are not surprising. He also didn’t come in with overwhelming size and strength, which likely hurts his stock. Robichaux likely needed to post excellent numbers across the board to earn consideration as a draftable prospect. It certainly doesn’t help that this is one of the deepest, most talented running back classes in recent memory. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s realistic that Robichaux gets drafted or earns anything more than a camp invite."

Love this one

Crazy how old he is… Rookie in the TE room is older than all the vets… Lol

IIRC, Stafford was drafted at 20 years old

Ivey signed with the Seahawks.
Rucker is still out there.

We’re good at DE. Muhammad will exceed his season sacks, we’ll sign Za’Daius, Davenport will play an entire season and our 6’ 240 lb linebacker will real havoc on the line.

Jakobie Keeney-James is the 2025 version of Demetrius Taylor in my life without the betting issues. There’s no better preseason storyline for me than UDFAs winning a roster spot against all odds and perceptions. So JKJ is the man until the next new thing catches my interest.
