The fires in Utah and Colorado had a brutally tragic incident with the loss of three firefighters and two others injured.
They just released their names. One of the firefighters lost was from Michigan
- Emily Barker, 38, of Clinton Township, Michigan, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Rifle Helitack.
RIP you courageous souls
We’ve been watching the news and my horse trainer has property out that way on the Grand Mesa. They’ve had a lot of big fires the past several years out there on the Western Slope.
My wife just got a text from a friend and there is a fire down by Beaulah, CO called the Aspen Acres fire, It was 40 acres this morning at 530am and has now blown up to 23,000 acres (nearly 40 square miles).
We have 40 acres down there Just land no buildings. We were intending to build in the last year, but for multiple different reasons, we decided to hold off.
I feel for those folks rthat have their lives set down there and are dealing with the reality of that fire. News reports are brutal. Can’t use Air Attack due to the winds. 100 mph gusts.Lots of canyons and arroyos for the wind to go ripping through to spread the fire faster. Extremely dry conditions. 6% humidity at best, then high 90’s temps in an area already extremely dry.
Bless those folks. It just sucks knowing that more fire crews are going to be dealing with another powerful inferno. So thankful for them.
