Virginia Tech is hiring James Franklin to fill its coaching vacancy as the two sides are finalizing an agreement, sources confirmed to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Franklin, one of the top names on the open market, was fired by Penn State amid a 3-3 start to the 2025 season.
The Hokies also made a midseason coaching change when they decided to move on from Brent Pry on Sept. 14. Pry, a former assistant of Franklin’s at Penn State, started the 2025 campaign with an 0-3 record and had just one winning season in four years at Virginia Tech.
Franklin spent 12 seasons at Penn State. The Nittany Lions finished below .500 just once during his tenure, and that was in the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
Depends. He can do exactly what he did at Penn state and Virginia tech fans will love him. Much less pressure there. He can be Kirk ferentz and stay there for 20 years winning 8 games a season.
Acc is trash . You dont think a Florida, lsu or hell maybe uofm doesn’t call him up at some point . Even though I actually like Moore as a recruiter and a coach. Just feel like its 2 years and gone. Coaches bounce around a ton these days
