Who had zero catches today. Holmes last few drafts are big reason lions aren’t in that last stage. And his FA signings are bottom of the bottle.
Look at how much this entire class contributed or didn’t contribute today:
2024 Draft Selections
-
Round 1, Pick 24: Terrion Arnold, CB (Alabama)
-
Round 2, Pick 61: Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB (Missouri)
-
Round 4, Pick 126: Giovanni Manu, OT (British Columbia)
-
Round 4, Pick 132: Sione Vaki, RB/S (Utah)
-
Round 6, Pick 189: Mekhi Wingo, DT (LSU)
-
Round 6, Pick 210: Christian Mahogany, G (Boston College)
My problem with brad taking those shots at players like manu and bromart is all the draft capital he gave up to get them. Those 3 third round picks would look great today if they had been used or packaged up to grab a legit CB1.
It looks even worse because we desperately needed DB help and struck out twice. Meanwhile philly hit 2 HRs with their 2 picks. 2 years later and we still desperately need DB help.
He’s had some great drafts but also wasted a ton of draft capital on complete busts (not saying that about TeSlaa) because of “smartest man in the room” syndrome.
At least he played it safe and changed his method this year.
TeSlaa had 1 target. He can’t throw himself the ball.
I would have taken Gonzalez at 12 and there was a chance Gibbs would be available at 18 if not I would have been OK with Swift and Montgomery, he also didn’t want to pay guys he didn’t draft, C. Davis, Amick Alex, Kalief etc
there aren’t many balls to go around when you give it to gibbs 64 times
No, there wasn’t. Jets would’ve taken him at No. 15 overall.
He wasn’t even remotely on Goff’s reads for the game. But he will be if Jamo struggles again.
Didn’t see this thread. 52 snaps, one target, zero catches.
Like, this needs to be more of a thing. This is looking like a big swing and a miss. Maybe it was just a bad first game and he comes to life, but good grief.
2024 and so far 2025 are on the level or Millen, Mayhew, and Quin. 2025 is a hair too early and 2026 remains to be seen. I truly believe Brad and Dan are on the hot seat. This might be their last season if the team doesn’t do well enough or those players don’t play well. I love Brad and DC but this is the reality.
They aren’t joined at the hip
I think DC gets 10 years. Truly.
Holmes needs to get back on track. Looks like he got back to his core philosophy in ‘26 but it might be too late to save a lot of the core from ‘21-’23
Yeah I’d Rather have Jack Campbell than Gonzo. Position importance matters…but Captain Jack is going to be the leader of our defense for a long time.
I’m a big Swift guy, but I’m not changing a thing about that draft. Probably the best draft in Franchise History.
Teslaa doesn’t get open. Even when he made plays last year it wasn’t Goffs 2nd or 3rd read, finding him break free. His catches were plays called by design. If the play isn’t called to go his way, he is probably not getting the ball as Goff doesn’t like to throw into coverage or 50/50 balls.
I was always confused on why lions needed a 3 so bad to trade up. When you can find guys like Reynolds and Patrick. But Holmes wont trade picks for actual nfl players .
Had a bad camp and preseason and only gets 1 target?!?!?
TesLaa is still the 5th option on this team (stole this from Matt Shepherd) behind Gibbs, ARSB, Jamo, and LaPorta….but he should still get more than 1 target imo….but maybe Petzing and/or Goff don’t trust him right now?
What was Holmes thinking. Not saying hes bust but to trade for so much makes zero sense to me
Because Brad thought he was the best WR in the draft.
After missing out on Puka, Brad re-evaluated his process on college WR’s and TesLaa fit his new criteria.
All picks are a gamble or calculated risk. We’ll see if Isaac can prove that Brad was right or wrong but Jamo wasn’t a slam dunk in year two either. Time will tell.
