Kick it, it’s Friday…Sammy Hagar with Montrose…
Followed by some southern boys doing that southern rock thing…
Followed by these guys, been performing as a group since the 1930’s…

Sammy with Montrose. That’s a great match.
That debut album is still stellar!
I read Sammy’s book about 10 years ago. That was a good read, but I have been a Sammy fan since high school. So, he can’t do wrong in my eye.
It is. It stands the test of time. Every musician in that band was very, very solid too.
Here are the first album credits. They are all part of the who’s-who, of that era.
Sam Hagar. Vocals
Ronnie Montrose. Guitar
Bill Church. bass,
Denny Carmassi. drums,
Montrose. producer.
Ted Templeman. producer.
Donn Landee. engineering.
Ted Templeman produced the 1st Van Halen album too.
Check out the theremin that Ronnie plays at the 3:00 minute mark in Bad Motor Scooter.
Our favorite local funk band plays this every gig, and plays it well. 5 pc horn sectoin, so we get plenty of Tower of power, EWF and Stevie too
Hip Pocket
Horns are on a hiatus, so they pare down to one sax and play as
Azz Izz
Huge fan of “Tower of Power”! Their founder Emilio Castillo was a Detroiter before moving out west. Where he formed the band “The Motowns”, in which changed to Tower of Power.
Yup also played every gig by Hip Pocket
The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band…I knew the only white guy in the band, Bill Cannon, sax player. After these guys he played some with Elvis, became a sessions musician and then mostly a drunk. If you think you’ve heard this song before it’s probably from an Etsy commercial.
So Bill is second from the right.

Good song, but I like the Detroit band, The Rockets cover version more.
That David Gilbert (lead vocals) could absolutely sing his ass off.
And Jim McCartney on guitar was no slouch either. Classic Les Paul sound.
