we lost Terrion Arnold , that leaves a void -or an opportunity, the opportunity to land thee best defensive player we can at this point and place him where we are bad or the weakest, it’s not about “oh we could just get another WR, CB, RB, TE, DE, an that helps.” my opinion is try and make a weak area of our defense a little stronger, instead of getting some offensive player “because we could.”
Right now I’d say unfortunately it’s scheme until proven otherwise imo.
The secondary has solid, experienced players, the linebackers are solid, the line has potential. Depth at linebacker is weak. To many questions at defensive end as well.

Right now, to me, it’s legit starting talent. In the front 4 we have Alim (who I’m assuming bounces back), Hutch and Tyliek. Thats 3 no doubt starters out of 4. At LB Jack Campbell is a beast, but the rest are JAGs currently. So that’s 4 out of 7 in the front are legit starters. DJ Reed has historically been an above average starter so I’m going to assume he becomes that again if that hammy is healthy. I think that’s about it for legit, no doubt, nfl starters though - five in total.
Obviously we hope Kerbys knee magically gets better, and that BB has Tatum like healing powers - and maybe someone busts out too like Rakestraw or rookie Moore… anything is possible (Garnett style).
Between the lack of proven Defensive coaching staff, and a shaky talent base on that side of the ball (the offense is stacked on the other hand) - I would consider it a surprise if we are anything other than a bottom 3rd ranked defense by the end of the year.
they’re starting the season with backups at 3 of the 4 major db positions
That ain’t so good
True but Clark has 80 starts under his belt. Ya-sin has 45 and Izien has 15. It isn’t like these guys are nobody players. All they need to be is solid and we’ll be just fine.

If everybody isn’t above average, the defense as a whole can only be below average, keep up!

I don’t get it… Is this supposed to mean we need more Georgia defenders?
120 km’s not miles bud. If you play for Georgia you go 120 km’s in school zones
Fox plays heavy nickel and shuts down half of the field, as well as depleting opposing starters talent, due to “accidental injuries”
One thing I heard my grandma say to my aunt when I was a kid was that if you keep an aspirin between your knees you can never get pregnant. I didn’t understand what she meant back then then but that’s a novel defensive philosophy there, Wolf.
this team only won so few games last season because of a handful of reasons, too many chefs in the OC/ how the offense was ran, injuries, player error, we had a Ghost defense, our schemes were tired, over-used, and predictable, lack of depth.
this offseason, we reloaded the damn Offense and should be on fire ( there ). On D. we have added depth, we have “some” new help, we should rank better -than 30-ish. we had some swag and confidence for a short while this offseason, but right now, I’m not feeling the same confidence out of most our posters , hmmm it’s like we holding our breath about our season hopes. losing Terrion , the way we did-was a kick in the balls, here we were hoping he was going to step up this season, now he’s behind bars for childish shit-leaving us with a spot to fill.
What area of OUR defense is weak!?
It is the math.
So far, our pass rush does not get home before the coverage breaks down.
We can improve pass rush (which we are all hoping that we have) so that our coverage has lessor demands.
We can improve our coverage to allow our rush to get home.
Until the math works, the defense will not.
Additionally, this is all under the assumption that our run defense returns as substantially good.
Scheme is #1 with a bullet no question.
But in terms of starting group. 1-5 scale. 1 trash, 3 Avg, 5 Elite
DE - Hutch & Moore 4.
DT - Williams & Mac 4
LB - Campbell, Barns, Rolder 4
CB - Reed, Rock, McCreary 3.5
SA - Maddox, Izien 3
The DBs are the “weakest point” but its not a liability. If you scheme it up the right way and maximize what the players can do. Its more than good enough.
