What does it mean for Stafford that the Rams drafted a QB #13 overall?

I feel like the Rams could’ve (and still can really) make a strong push for a Superbowl this year with Stafford. With that being said, the Rams could have used their 1st pick to make their team even better and stronger but chose to pick a QB. So what does that mean for Stafford? Do you think he told the Rams that this would be his last year? Or are the Rams going to force him out?

Just curious what the story is behind the pick?

I think it is what they have said.

Stafford can be the QB as long as he wants, or stays healthy.

An opportunity to get a highly rated, or highest they may get, QB to work behind him as they have nothing.

Also, if Stafford retires suddenly I believe having a young talented, @HSVLion ??, QB in the wings helps them offset the cap hit which I believe would be significant. (one of the talking heads or writers made the cap comment.

Ty will be very good for them in the McVay system…but only when Stafford decides to retire on his own terms.

means Matty is dayum near 40 and ‘may’ not be playing much longer, could still assist the team or coach or something-down the line.

Matt had said that this was going to be his last season. I believe he is under contract through the 27 season.

Smart time to pick a QB. The Rams have the opportunity to watch him in preseason and practice for a season before they have to commit.

I means that Stafford is nearly 40 and the Rams are thinking about a succession plan for whenever Matt chooses to leave

The same thing it meant for Montana with young, and Farve with Rodgers and Rodgers with Love. “Don’t slow down or we will leave you behind. “

Do you guys think McVay sticks around for much longer if/when Stafford retires? I could see McVay also retiring or stepping down, not wanting to go through a rebuild.

As a fan of a team that has to deal with the Rams every year…I LOVED the pick. They had so many options to improve the team in the next 1-3 years. They went a completely different direction. Sean McVay is going to twist himself in knots trying to justify the pick and pretend he was completely on board with it. He clearly wasn’t. Its a reality that was dropped on him like a ton of bricks.

Shocked they took him at 13. As soon as Puka or Devanta has an injury fans are going to be talking about the WR they could have had. Or adding Bain to that nasty DL? Even if Stafford gets injured i dont think Simpson is the number 2 guy this year.

I don’t think so. Stafford retires and McVay heads to a media gig

Right on, I agree.

I think it’s a VERY high risk/VERY high reward pick. This cat gets to sit behind Matt for 2-3 years, and learn. Could be amazing for their organization. SO hard to get a great QB in this league, unless you are the vikings…HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It’s exactly what they said. Stafford is the guy until he retires. McVay would never allow it to be otherwise. You can even see McVay was upset.

The Rams and Seahawks were the best. Their game was basically the SB. The Rams are even better now after they went all in with the Chiefs CBs. I fully expect them to be the best team in the NFL, and win the Superbowl. I don’t see another team better than them. They’re kind of far ahead of everyone else.

They could have got a WR or Bain to help now. But i understand getting your QB of the future. The rest of their draft was terrible. But what do i know I’m Snead found a couple oif probowlers in there. He’s that good.

I think that’s why McVay was so upset about the pick.

It was a high pick in the 1st round, and they drafted someone who McVay probably won’t have much involvement with instead of someone who could’ve helped McVay win another Super Bowl.

Reminder, he was a paraplegic during the preseason
