No thank you. In theory I wouldn’t mind him as DE3. I’d just worry that Kelvin and Dan would bathe in his soundness and we’d be giving way too many base end snaps to another plodder.

Not necessarily. In fact if Bain and Faulk are gone, I’d say it’s UNlikely. Well, Bailey too, but it’s hard to imagine our FO being all that into him. And he’ll probably be gone as well.

We’ll see who actually makes it to FA but as of now it’s a promising EDGE group IMO.
After Trey, Ebiketie and Mafe probably intrigue me the most. But there are 8-10 guys that I could behind as at least a big part of the solution.
Pretty sure we’re not going into the draft with Aiden, AH, Wheat and Lacy as our EDGE room.

I’m with you. Better edge FA class than most years. We’ll see if it actually stays that way. I wouldn’t be shocked if Mafe, for instance, never reaches the market. Ebikitie has a chance given their investment last year, and of course Trey is certain to be there.
I honestly think Trey is likely to be our top target. The timing is finally right.

Could be, but I would expect most of them to come pretty cheap. Like AQM did. Or, well it depends. If we splash out on Trey that’s what I’d expect. If we miss on him maybe we do something like a couple of mid-level guys, and spend a more valuable pick. I’m also fascinated to see how Hassanein comes along. I wouldn’t be counting on him or anything, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t give us something.

How’s the draft for edge guys this year?
Not very good at the top, but pretty good depth.

Well that’s not bad then. I’d take AQM back at the right price. Not as a starter but he’s pretty decent on 3rd downs and rushing the passer.

I will say I expect our FO to LOVE Rueben Bain. So if he were to fall due to not having prototypical edge traits (really short arms, squatty build, average testing), I think it’s possible we would be very aggressive moving for him.

I reverse my opinion! I’m looking closely this looks like a very solid OR draft class. MUCH more likely a solid OR is there in rd. 1 at this point.
Get a FA DE that is a viable starter. Gotta do it.

I’d be surprised if he fell out of the top ten, but not shocked. Nitpicking season is about to hit us, and Bain doesn’t have classic high-pick traits for an edge. You know how it goes. I mean, remember Jack Sawyer last year? People went crazy for him after his playoff run and he was mocked in the 1st everywhere. Well he fell all the way to the 4th. Bain won’t fall that far, but with below 5th percentile arm length, and what is expected to be middling testing, he won’t be for everyone. I’ve already listened to plenty of draft-centric podcasts where he falls outside the top ten.
