What happened to Referee Tony Corrente?

A decade ago Tony gets hit during a game and after being evaluated by medical staff he was found to have throat cancer. That’s pretty incredible! Possibly saved his life?

Flash forward to 2022, Corrente takes a spill during the Lions-Seahawks game. I don’t believe he finished the game and I have not found a video of the fall. I do remember the announcer (Gus Johnson) saying ‘there didn’t look to be any contact to cause the fall’. But they never showed a video replay.

A few days after the fall, Tony Corrente announces his retirement following this season.

I don’t want to speculate, because there is little information to go on. But man, I hope it’s nothing major. Why did he just fall down?

I had forgotten he also was the one that threw the flag against the Bears where he looked like he backed into the player intentionally…

So, as to the original question, is there anything physically wrong with the guy? He might be a douche, but why did he leave the game? Anyone???

He’s “retiring” because the NFL doesn’t allow buttchecks except for the ny jets.
