They are not trading JAMO…until they have to…and they also dont want to pay him 30 million a year so we can’t assume its a sure thing he gets a second deal here. I dont want to see JAMO leave but unless he takes a team discount (he won’t bc that would be idiotic) the minimum deal we are talking is the tee higgins deal and today Detroit doesn’t want to sign him to that. If he blows up 60 catches 1300 yards (very very likely) the number goes up…

Marty-it’s a fair question brother… unlikely outcome, but not impossible….

Higgins, Golden, J Noel, T Horton, T Harris, Embuka, Burden…. Could one of these guys be an Addison, Tee Higgins, D Smith level player? I too believe Jamo to be a unique weapon… but I can also see…

Lions Trade Jamo to the Ravens for #42 and #136

-28: K Grant
-42: J Savaiinaea
-60: J Noel
-102: J Sawyer
-130: Que Robinson
-136: T Buchannan
-196: Ty Robinson
-228: I Neyor

I think we keep Jamo but this draft would give us a killer depth chart… outside of WR, but I think Noel could easily be 2023 Jamo year one and our offense was fine.

Adding Grant, Sawyer, Que and Robinson to our DL would be sick

I would take 2 years of Jamo cheap yr 4 then QOyr 5, then tag him, Then let him walk. And get a 3rd rd comp pick.

Essentially w/ the QO and tag he is getting a 2 year $50m extension and will still be young enough to get a huge deal after it.

That would be a terrible trade for the Lions.

@TouchdownMyPants mentioned that Jamo has a $5.4 million cap hit in 2025…. but even MORE important…

is that Jamo is due only $3.08 million in new cash for 2025.

Almost 1/2 of his ā€œcap hitā€ in 2025 is already on the Lions books and can’t be moved ($2.32 of that $5.4 mill is prorated SB money already paid).

Jamo shouldn’t be traded for anything less than a 1st round pick before the 2025 season is complete.

With his 5-yr option still representing a VERY reasonable salary for an explosive 1000-yard WR… his value should still remain at least a 2nd rounder in 2026.

And…. as @Weaselpuppy mentioned… there would still be the franchise tag option in 2027… or a trade to get a 3-rd rounder if he has proven worthy of getting the tag.

There is almost ZERO reason for the Lions to not let this situation develop year by year.

If the Lions want to hedge their investment in Jamo, they won’t trade him, they’ll draft another speedster this draft and say ā€œcompetition brings out the bestā€ then we’ll all decide who is worth what the next couple years.

I don’t think this is a ā€˜dumb’ thought at all.

I’m not remotely a capologist, but no need to recap the ton of Pro Bowl/All Pro caliber guys who have been paid recently or will need to be paid soon. I’m not at all convinced that they can retain them all, meaning the top 8-11. They’re already letting good guys walk.

So, yeah they can hang onto Jamo for two years relatively cheaply, then sign him to big $$$. Will he be worth what he wants in light of the choices to be made? Maybe not. Or they can keep him for those two, then let him walk for nothing. They could franchise. tag him.

OR they could trade him this year, get some pix w/the receiving team knowing they’ll have him for two w/a real chance to resign him.

I think that’s quite unlikely. This is the widest open their SB window is likely to be - that’s the prize and healthy Jamo mosdef helps w/that pursuit. I also think that’s not necc. in keeping w/the ā€œour guysā€ culture they’ve built.

But the general principle - getting something in return for valuable guys who aren’t in your long-term plans (Jamo might not be), rather than later letting them walk for nothing - nothing ridiculous about that, whether the Lions go that route or not.

why would we want to let any of our opponents get a strong playmaker?

Here is another thing to think about.

Jamo is due ~ $3.08 million in new cash for 2025.

The 28th selection in 2024… was Xavier Worthy.
The Chiefs paid him ~ $7.6 million in cash in 2024.

The Lions have ALREADY paid Jamo the majority of the cash due on his 4-year deal (over $14 million of the $17 million).

Enjoy the cheap year in 2025.

In the age of comp picks etc you dont truly let them go for nothing unless you spend offset amounts in free agency… but if the point of trading him was the cost i dont see us going out and signing someone else external that would offset the 3rd we would get.

If he continues to improve…

and is too expensive to re-sign….

the Lions will be able to tag him and trade him….
possible for a pick better than a 3rd round comp pick.

DK just netted the Seahawks- 2nd round pick… #52 overall in the current draft. They didn’t even have to wait for a future year comp pick at the end of round 3… and the Steelers had to immediately extended him for $132 million over 4 more years.

Jamo has 2 years of team control BEFORE the franchise tag…
he is much more valuable than DK this offseason.

100% i was just speaking to the flaw in the idea of ā€œtrade him before you end up with nothingā€ it doesnt really need to work that way in the nfl due to the comp system

I like the spirit of the idea, Jamo, Laporta, and Joseph are probably priced-out of second contracts.

But jesus, that could jack up the offense something fierce

@Martymcfly2017 isnt the only one thinking about this

I can understand why this speculation exists.

I also believe this would be a dumb response short of someone tossing us far more than what so-called experts would suggest.

Jamo is growing nicely and I expect another step forward this year. If he goes elite, then we will pay him. If he gets injured/step back, decisions will have to be made.

I would rather have his talent on the team for as long as we can than trade him for lesser talent because we might not ā€œget anythingā€ from him if he leaves. We have the 4th and 5th years with possible franchise. No need to be panicking right now.

Additionally, IF he breaks out and becomes the receiver that we hope he can be, I would be more inclined to resign him and let Cambell and LaPorta go. Please know, I hate that. But I would rather have elite weapon at WR than really good players at Linebacker and Tight End.

I think there’s a much greater than zero chance that they trade Jamo not this offseason, zero chance this offseason, but in the next 1-2 years.
They’re going to have to trade somebody from the core and I’ve always felt like they were lukewarm on Jamo compared to the other core guys so I think he’s the pretty obvious choice to be the one that’s traded. I don’t see it being either of the safeties, definitely not Hutch, not Gibbs or LaPorta, not Campbell.

They can’t pay all these guys, just listen to Holmes last presser where it seemed pretty obvious that he’s going to have to part with somebody if you really listen to his tone, so I see it being Jamo eventually. Not a guarantee by any means but if anybody from the core gets shipped out it’s Jamo IMO.

Didn’t say zero next offseason… I put it at 1% next offseason. He may be the first player this regime franchise tags… At that time, he may be traded, or they’ll pay him $25 million on the tag and reevaluate the next offseason. But absolutely ZERO chance he’s moved before 2026
