Also to my original point earlier in the thread. The Lions were a 15 win team and are relying on Hooker and Allen at backup qb. And Dan Skipper as a backup tackle. There just isn’t anywhere close to enough player talent to fill out 8 more nfl rosters. Shit there isn’t even enough good qb’s for 32 teams. A lot of teams have no good qb’s.
San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the US.
It’s further away from Dallas than Philadelphia is from New York (and about the same as Boston). It’s also a faster-growing and more resource-rich area than Baltimore (which is very close to DC and Philly, too).
Jerry would fight it, but the city itself could justify a team more so than just about any of the others on this list.
And San Antonio is in Texas….
where football is hugely popular at all levels.
Playing football in Calgary in December and January would be ■■■■■■■ crazy though.
Would be the greatest home field advantage ever if the players were used to it. The Florida teams would forfeit just getting off the plane. Lol if you think Lambeau is cold. Try Alberta.
Apparently dome stadiums haven’t found their way to Canada yet?
Indoor football sucks… Hate it. Play on grass outdoors.

Vancouver would be the logical choice for Western Canada, but I really love the Calgary area.
Maybe you do like New England did and build the stadium in Red Deer to try to get both Edmonton and Calgary.
Call 'em the Alberta Roughriders and be done with it.
This is a good point….
because the current pro football stadium in Calgary was built in 1960 and has a capacity of 35,000 people.
I just dont see a small market in the western Canadian plains being able to get a 60,000+ seat dome financed for $1 billion… because they can’t even really use it for concerts when they have the hockey arena as a better venue.
Fun story but the last football game I ever played was in Red Deer Alberta. We won the Canadian Semi Pro National Championship back in 2010. I immediately retired after the game. My body was in shambles but it sure was fun.
Here’s me giving the RB a back massage after crushing him!
Interesting I wasn’t aware of that, largest based on what metric?
Thanks
Edit; on a zoom call where I’m an observer more than anything so spent time googling this.
I’m heading up N American expansion for one of my mfrs and didn’t realize how big San Antonio actually was. Texas is one of the markets we are building up.
As someone who spends lots of time in the area I can tell you this, the NFL is already king. The Cowboys are so popular (they often held their training camp in SA or Austin) I just don’t know what you’ll be getting. All of the riches already give most of their money to the Cowboys (and UT). 18 one-off game day experiences will for sure be profitable, but that’s true of any team who might be added. If they’re looking for corporate money, they’d be better off up the road in Austin, but honestly I’m pretty sure they can get it without even adding a team nearby. The NFL rules America.
I just think the bar for expansion should be a lot higher… and I think it probably is. The owners don’t want to share any more of their piece of the pie, not unless the pie gets MUCH bigger. And I don’t think San Antonio does that.
I’d be pissed (again) that Vegas took Oakland’s trash leftovers rather than an expansion team.
Chatham should be the first Canadian city. Right next to the Wheels Inn.
The Chatham Cougars
Let’s get some fun cities. ■■■■ the logics. Give me Tokyo. Give me Dubai. You can go catch some LIV golf all weekend and then the Dubai game on Sunday.

Honestly I think if they every really get around to doing something like this it will be with 8 European teams, 2 divisions of 4, one in the AFC and one in the NFC. That’s not only opens a huge, mostly untapped market, it makes any further expansion much easier. Just add more European cities!
I would hate it. But the nfl loves money. And the only thing they like more than money. Is even more money. So international expansion would not surprise me. It kinda feels like all these international games they play now is the precursor to franchises. Get the sport more popular first and then bring in teams. It’ll also probably be flag football by then I won’t be watching anymore
That’s exactly what they are, imo. Test runs. Two teams in London, four in Germany (Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Munich, based on where they’re choosing to play now AND historical success with NFL Europe - Frankfurt Galaxy and Rhein Fire in Dusseldorf were two of their most successful franchises), then two more somewhere else. Dublin? Glasgow? Amsterdam? Birmingham?
