If you give casual fans or first time watchers an experience they enjoy, they are more likely to come back for more. They’re more likely to get into the sport itself, if they feel some sort of alignment with the league. I feel like this isn’t that hard of a concept. It already happens all the time in other avenues - why do you think they keep putting the military on display in the NFL, or the pride stuff, or even the breast cancer awareness? It’s not out of the goodness of their hearts. It’s mostly PR and building the brand.

Half time is when you go sample all the eats, if timed out right, you finish your plate, use the rest room, grab a fresh cold one and hit your seat just before the 2nd half kick off.
I’m aware they have halftime shows. I’ve probably only watched a full show maybe twice in the last 40 years.

The only thing I care about when it comes to the Super Bowl is are the Lions playing in it?
15 hour pregame show? who cares
Commercials? Who cares
Half-time show? Who cares
Watching the Chiefs in another super bowl? I’d rather get a colonoscopy!

Are we pretending that Superbowl parties aren’t a massive part of the experience?
But also, some people who wouldn’t normally watch football tune in for the superbowl just because it’s a social phenomenon. If they can appeal to those casual viewers, they may capture some who will then become more regular viewers. Where as if they appeal to old dudes, that’s all they will ever have for viewership.

I’m still pissed that Lawrence Welk never got a halftime gig at the Super Bowl. If they ever have holographic performers at halftime, Lawrence Welk should be at the top list.
