Yes, I’m predicting that Boom Boom Bates sets a new NFL record long FG within the next two years.

I might be in the minority here, not sure, but I feel like if any kicker can boom a 70 yard kick, and/or kickers start hitting from 60+ on the regular, its too easy. Not sure how they would fix it. Maybe move the crossbars or something.

I want our guy to get an 80 yarder

Prater nailed a 76 yarder in practice at the Pro Bowl once.

I’ve seen kickers kick it through the uprights on touchbacks…which is 80 yards. The hard part with long field goals is they tend to come out low and get blocked more often than shorter kicks.

If it needs fixing you just shrink the uprights, smaller target = less accuracy and teams are less likely to try these long kicks.

Personally, i dont see an issue in current state.

I forget which silly podcast it was on but someone was suggesting that you could bring out a pole once per game for a four pointers. If you don’t hit the pole you are awarded four points. The rock and jock approach to the kicking game.

Oh me either, but if these guys start hitting 65-70 yards all the time, I think it will take away a little bit from the game. Just a thought I had. I don’t think points in this game were meant to be given if you can’t even cross into the opponents territory.

This has to be in the running for best comedic post of the year!

I heard a guy call him, Legatron, the other day…

Just a side note on this, because I’m not disagreeing. I mean I don’t agree with you but I see what you’re saying. Doing the math, anything at 66 yards or less is enemy territory.

I was at that game.

My parents were at that game.

Those two are the only straight on kickers to hit them. All others are soccer-style kickers and all after 2000.

I just remember how I felt completely robbed after Justin Tucker nailed that 66 yarder. It sort of felt cheap. Of course, if it had been us I might argue the other side so who knows. Its like one of those things that if you invented the game today, with these kickers, maybe you set it up differently. A long range GW field goal is thrilling. I wouldn’t want to take that away if it were up to me. But if they start drilling kicks past the 50 with regularity, then yeah maybe the rules need to change.
