Unless they worked out a pro rata settlement on the base salary, the Lions would owe him the balance of his $1.4 Million base:

Marvin Jones signed a 1 year, $3,000,000 contract with the Detroit Lions, including a $1,600,000 signing bonus, $3,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $3,000,000.

There’s no saving according to OTC, his $3m was fully guaranteed. It’s a $2.2m cap hit this year and a $800k cap hit next year as he had a void year in his contract.

There’s an “agreement” though on being released. Something will have been reduced somewhere. Maybe a portion of the signing bonus will be returned, wiping next year’s 800k off the books.

Michael Brockers wishes he would have thought of that. Maybe this will cure the Lions appetite for player/coach/mentors?

Marquise Brown will wear #10 in Detroit
