Each offseason, it seems the grades have very quickly been set out before us post draft. I’m wondering A, how they graded our whole draft vs how they graded each draft pick.
I have seen us on various sites get graded from a B- to a C.
As far as how they grade them is quite simple….I as an evaluator who has no connection to the team and have no idea what the envisioned role for each player selected is will compare what the pros did to what I thought they should!
Just like us around here…we get mad and criticize the pick when it doesn’t align with what we wanted/thought.
that’s all nice but didn’t answer my question.
They’ll be available in about 4 years. The ones that matter anyways.
My personal grade is a B.
It was a pretty boring draft to be honest, but I think that’s what we needed.
chit I went to ytube and seen Brad’s presser on it, feeling better, he said and I quote "as long as me and Dan see eye to eye on it, it’s a good pick, Holmes said 3rd round is kind of Psffft pick anything.
Dudes that evaluate draft grades over-grade for flashy picks that are often boom or bust picks and undervalue solid picks that just make a team better.
I am sure most “Draft Evaluators” will hate our draft and give us a “C”
I am writing this before I have seen anybody’s draft grade for us
like I say LATER on, I went to You Tube and watched Bradly speak in a presser and field questions why he drafted who he did…I understand more now and got my answer.
I am feeling “B to B+”ish
Our first pick OT will be a Day 1 Starter
Our second pick Edge will be Day 1 in the Rotation, probably heavy on 2nd and 3rd down"
Our third pick LB should be seeing considerable playing time Day 1 but maybe not “starter” until injuries hit
Our 4th pick CB should be the same as #3
5th pick WR will see some action and hopefully help balance our WR corps
Anyone after them is a bonus if they make the team and/or practice squad
I think we had a solid if not flashy draft
Here you go….
Better than I expected actually. Pretty much averages a “B”
One analyst called this a “meat and potatoes” draft for the Lions. That pretty much sums it up for me. Just a bunch of GRITty guys plugging holes we needed plugging. No champagne and no caviar. Just meat and potatoes.
Posted them for you Wolf
It wasn’t a sexy draft, but, I think we could have a very sexy team this year.
On “paper”, we are so back!
The draft grades from 3 years ago are what really matter. Teams that had a good draft 3 years ago probably have a good team today.
I actually agree with the B (meat and potatoes) kind of draft. Brad has always been a BPA drafter. This draft makes me wonder if he deviated a little or the BPA and needs just aligned this year.
I do think we improved from this draft. We can discuss how much (and we will… and the dead horse gif will probably come out). But my biggest question actually is in regard to Moore. I worry about his limited snaps with the Wolverines and wonder if we grabbed a specialist more than a rotational player. Time will tell. What I am sure about is that he will have every opportunity to develop additional moves and become a more balanced all-around edge. I also wonder if he is freaky athletic enough to drop in coverage and do some weirdly effective looks. This might be a brilliant pick, but it will all be in how they use him… and I really don’t know how to foresee that yet. IF he elevates this defense because of his play, this draft could bounce to A pretty quickly.

Here is a good reason I don’t put much stock in “draft grades”… because the writer often just forms an opinion and tries to justify it with poor logic.
Was just watching a video on the Lions draft, and it mentioned PFF’s comment on Derrick Moore. Apparently, PFF has concerns about his “length” limiting him.
Moore is a shade under 6’4” tall, arms are 33.375 inches, and his wingspan is 81.25 inches. Since when are these measurements below average for a DE??? BTW… these measurements are either longer or very comparable to Nick Bosa, TJ Watt, Will Anderson, and Micah Parsons.
Moore is shorter than Hutch and Joey Bosa, but has longer arsm and wingspan than both.
And the most humorous one to me is Maxx Crosby. Maxx is taller for sure, but he is referred to as “the Condor” because of his long wingspan…. which is identical to Moore’s wingspan! Moore even has longer arms. ![]()
Meanwhile…PFF loved Tampa’s pick of Bain and just dismissed his arm length. Bain has 30.875 inch arms (2.5 inches shorter than Moore). Bain is also 1.625 inches shorter (6’2.25” tall), and his wingspan is 4 inches shorter (77.5 inches).

You had me at: I don’t put much stock in “draft grades”
Sure, I like to see good draft grades because I like good press for the Lions for any reason. But I don’t do much beyond laughing when someone slams our draft before training camp.
lol yea I don’t get the Moore critiques on his measurables. Like you said those were reasons to like him. To hell with the pundits I’m just happy that this was the 2nd year in a row that BH drafted a guy I really wanted in the 2nd round (Ratledge last year).
