Splinter topic from the WR salary discussion. Who “belongs” in the new highest paid WR discussion. I define this as which WRs, when becoming free agents, automatically and unquestionably would deserve to be the highest paid at their position?
I will throw out JJ, Chase, and Tyreek to make it so people don’t have to post them every time.
Those 3 make the cut no matter what the offense is dealing. Amon-Ra has the impact of a tier 1 receiver within our system that accentuates short and medium distance throws. He must be accounted for. Adding in LaPorta stresses that defensive task even further.
I guess that’s a backhanded way of excluding him from that Tier 1 group, even as he is essential to our success.
No I agree 100%. Other offenses wouldn’t feature him the same way we do - SF for example. But for the way we want to do things, he’s absolutely crucial. Tier 1 all the way.
I cant wait for defensive coordinators to have to account for a full blown JAMO. We destroy the short and medium game already. If we even see half of Alabama JAMO this year we are going to be the number 1 offense in football. Uh oh NFL… JAMO is growing up and becoming a man… how ya gonna stop all three levels of our O with 4th Down Dan? Hahaha good luck!
I think AJ Brown was there until he let his emotions take him out of the game last year. He was a top 1/2 wr in football for half of 2023… then he basically stopped caring the rest of the season.
Man, I get tired of Lion haters. Why is it only our players that are a product of, “the system”.
Amon Ra has straight busted his ass to achieve the success he enjoys. He deserves every accolade and more!
If you are going off of skills alone, Ra is in the conversation as #1. Is anyone else as technically proficient as he is at the full range of the WR skillset? Every year he’s said during preseason I want to be better at X and he’s done it. Two years ago it was YAC, last year it was deep routes. Also, he’s noticeably improved across the board each year. Hard to believe it won’t be any different this year. It think if we have this conversation then there won’t be as much reticence to put him first.
Finally, I feel like positional value keeps rearing it’s head we slot receivers inherently having less value. Pretty sure the Lions don’t see it that way. Considering how many back breakingly long plays RA has had from the slot, I’m not sure other teams see it that way as well.
And I get tired of people hating on others for their opinions. It’s a message board, it’s suppose to be a place to voice opinions, even if you don’t agree with them.
@LionFrog are you considered to be a ARSB hater if you think he is not better than Chase, Hill, or JJ?? That seems like a terrible argument. ARSB is the jersey I am saving for, my favorite player on the team, and the true spirit of what we are trying to do. But that DOESN’T mean he is a no brainer to be paid the highest every time he comes up for free agency. I don’t think there is any question that everyone would agree on the above 3 to be the highest paid. That’s my point. The fact that home fans are even arguing about it means he likely isn’t in that slam dunk category like they are. There is nothing wrong with having differing opinions. Especially on something that isn’t slam dunk either way. Isn’t that the point of these boards?
Amon-Ra is taking the Jerry Rice route. He is beating you by working harder at the art of being a wr. No one out worked Jerry. No one will out work Amon-Ra. If Amon-Ra plays as long as i think he is going to, he has just as good a chance of ending up in Canton as anyone.
