So we’re comparing Kyle to Cignetti, lol? This was your typical late in the game hire because most coaches probably would be able to tolerate the administration. Maybe the administration is getting our version of Urban Meyer only decades later

Whittingham is not a home run or a coach who is about to win the B10 unless he changes his tune and opinion on the portal and NIL.
He is at best a stop gap to stabilize the program which I guess is a hot mess.?! I am not sure I completely follow this narrative but for sure the program is being kicked around at the moment.
I think he is the smart hire or his type is the right hire.
He is neither younger nor is he a big winner. He is a solid coach with a very solid reputation.
I would be surprised if he was still there in 4 years. But he will leave I do not see him getting fired. He is getting paid to stabilize and then move out of the way.

Well, Tony Alford and Lamar Morgan are likely to stay. Possibly Lou Esposito? They are all very good recruiters.
Whittingham will likely bring his S&C coach Doug Elisaia with him.
If he’s able to land both Jason Beck as offensive coordinator, and Jay Hill as defensive coordinator, they will be top notch hires.
There’s a decent chance he keeps Magee as GM, which would be a wise choice imo.

Michigan will never be a big player in the portal unless the university changes their academic standards/requirements. Thats why neither Harbaugh nor Moore were big portal players. Whittingham won’t be either, but he does have a lot of NIL money at his disposal for recruits.

They got 17 last year. So they do or will most likely will get around that number again. I can see a few utah players join uofm next season

Many teams use the portal as a form of free agency. Michigan has to be far more selective and mostly use it to add depth. They are very dependent on recruiting and then using NIL to keep their recruits. That’s why being a constant contender isn’t as likely for them. They have to keep developing younger recruits.

Yeah because of the “academic standards” and what they will accept. Like you can get these average HS student athletes accepted, but all of a sudden you have impossible standards when it comes to transfers

It’s like what most teams do. Fill in what they need. Uofm has had some big time portal kids. Wasn’t there few LBs and a stud rb. A kicker , Stewart, barner, nice oline players as well
