There are some talented choices but not sure which one have the most immediate impact. Interested in hearing the consensus.
I don’t see a 10 plus sack edge likely to be there at #28… I expect Derrick Harmon, W Nolan, or K Grant to be there and their physical gifts and skill sets alongside Alim will make things much easier…

JT Tuimoloau is probably most ready to hit the ground running. He doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but he’s played a ton of snaps, just like Verse had last year. The transition should be quicker.

I don’t know, Scourton is only 20 and didn’t have the best finish to the year. And he’s bounced around systems too. JTT has seen it all and played like 1000 reps. I think he’s much more likely to hit the ground running.
Actually it’s pretty unusual for an edge to hit the ground running. Verse and Chop have skewed the way we think about it. Even Hutch. He was good, but not anywhere near fully formed. Travon, Thibs, Latu, Jermaine Johnson, Wilson, Van Ness, Will McDonald, Myles Murphy, Jaelan Phillips, Paye, Rousseau, Oweh, Sweat, Gary… not a single one entered the league ready to roll. You kind of have to go back to Nick Bosa for the next guy to be almost fully-formed (and even he would improve).

Kind of like Donovan Ezeiruaku out of BC. I know he’s on the small side for the Lions but the production in college was excellent, he never stops pursuing and listening to how he prepares/studies for games was impressive. Big question is can he hold up in run defense but for an edge rusher he’ll be good. Not sure if he’ll be there at 28 though.

I think he will be the first from this draft to reach double digit sacks. I also believe it won’t be for the Lions.

Of the better ones who it appears for certain will be there at 28 Landon Jackson is my pick. I don’t play trade down game becasue we just don’t know an gives false draft. I would take Landon an feel very happy.
I think he has the right attitude that fits Lions an you can’t teach speed or desire. You put him other side of Hutch you have power house DL.
We can go big an still have the rush.

Are there any other Edge prospects that react to the ball/qb as quickly as JTT? You don’t even see it in his highlight stuff. (yes, I know you don’t grade a guy by his highlight tape). If a video is at 30 frames per second and you had a still shot of all 30 frames, his reaction to the ball has to be in the first couple of frames, immeasurably fast.
Yes, that was some Paula Abdul-level love, but after watching various player’s highlights and seeing them reacting so slowly (comparitively speaking) to the play, his highlights absolutely pop.

I like JTT. Its a good pick for plug and play. I would say Mike Green might be plug and play in some systems. He’s got a pretty good array of pash rush moves already. Probably Jack Sawyer too, definitely on the run defense side.

That’s one of the reasons he’s such a stud in short yardage. He just sees it and goes so quick. There are DTs who were better in short yardage, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an edge be so good.
Oladejo reacts pretty quickly but it’s different, it’s his LB background and it’s almost completely limited to the running game for now. He can still be fooled by crafty ballhandling from the QB.
Ethan Downs seems to always know what’s going on, but he has a lot more to do to beat tackles even after he recognizes it. Short arms, limited explosiveness really hurt him.
With all of his character red flags, I’d be pretty surprised if we were in for him.

I wasn’t including character, I won’t disagree from what I’m hearing. I’m just saying “on the field” plug and play" I think he wouldn’t be a bad pick to start right away. He’s pretty productive and advanced in his moves.
no telling what we might do, I’m expecting a trade up , IF he see’s a DE he falls in love with.
