Some of us were discussing who we think will be gone next year. Here’s where I see the cap savings coming from. What do you guys think? We were only discussing cuts north of 1.5 million as there’s a host of minimum salary guys who always get cut.
Decker 11.9 million(replaced with first round pick)
Glascow 5.5 million(replaced second round pick)
Montgomery 3.5 million
Wright 2.7 million
Dorsey 1.6
it’s also very likely Goff will restructure next year to free up cap space as he’s slotted to count for 70 million next year.
Monty and Wright aren’t going anywhere. Neither is Decker, IMO. Glasgow? He’ll not be brought back as a starter and he’ll know it. If he want’s to continue to be a Lion, though, I’m sure they’ll leave the door open for him.
Reader is a cap hit of 3.7 mil unless he’s re-signed, as his prorated bonus from 3 void years is accelerated into 2026’s exit, if he’s not re-upped.
As crappy as this season is, it’s not like we’re sitting on bad contracts. We’re not expecting to find any kind of cap windfall by dropping dudes from the roster.
I don’t see any of those guys gone. 3.5M for Monty is cheap. 5.5M for Glasgow is also cheap even if he is a backup because he can back up all 3 interior positions in a pinch. Unless Decker retires I don’t see him gone either. Although I would move Sewell to LT and draft a RT.
You need to field a competitive team next year. You have limited draft picks to long term needs and improve depth. Decker is still a quality starting tackle. Knuckles is still a competent number two back and short yardage monster. Wright is a serviceable cheap TE3. Glasgow isn’t the answer at Center, we will be drafting Oline.Dhorsey is expendable. Manu has developed but only coaches know if he has value.
