Why can't we have real turf at Ford Field?

Yea, I referenced that in a post somewhere, that was his interview on Siriusxm

The Fords are not investing in a real grass field because then they can’t have other events there then.

The grass field caused Travon Diggs ACL tear.

The players could force grass fields. We’ll have to see how serious they are about it. The money might come out of their own pockets. But the NFLPA certainly could make it happen.

Bingo! They want indoor facilities because they can host shows and concerts year round. It’s all about money.

If it was just about football, they’d play outdoors like most of the Michigan college football teams.

The Lions might call Ford Field home, but they really don’t play there much at all. 10 times a year at most. How many events does Ford Field hold per year!? I bet it’s closer to 100.

It comes down to Domes make money year round, outdoor stadiums do not. Retractable roof is where it’s at IMO

There’s an old Buddy Hackett joke about a gal who, walking down the street, recognized an old high school friend.
She introduced herself, but he couldn’t remember her.
She said “of course, you remember me as Charlie”
He said “Charlie, that’s you?”
She said “yeah, i’ve had a sex change”
Curious, he asked how bad it hurt when they inserted fake boobs.
“no pain at all” she said.
Well, what about when they cut your junk off?
“No, I was under during the surgery and didn’t feel a thing.”
He says “you mean to tell me you transitioned from a man to a woman and no part of the process caused pain?”
She said “well, the part where they put my head in a vice to squeeze out half my brain hurt pretty bad.”

Y’all transition every time this topic comes up.

The point of my question really isn’t the injury to Rodgers but how much a star player on a team is worth towards victory , selling tickets , making playoffs and winning super bowls … that’s why I said let’s say it was caused by turf

I used Rodgers because his back up is a huge step back from him and the team is seen as a real contender with him. I don’t know how much in dollars would a playoff run be worth to the nYJets

In this way
My question still stands - some owners have chosen grass when it’s feasible. It could be intended as an investment in protecting their players … or doing it for other reasons.

@socko goff will have to play for $37m a year instead of $40m

We also have sub zero temps an sometimes a half a foot of snow even with the sun .

Y’all actually have nicer grass in Michigan than I have in Georgia. I’ll take your Kentucky Blue Grass over my Bermuda any day of the week. There is a reason than many people call Bermuda crabgrass because it’s crabgrass. Of course they don’t really care about the grass but the ground itself. My red clay soil is hard as a brick too. I do get a lot more sunny days, which tends to burn the grass out, hence the crabgrass. When I used to live 10 minutes from the beach, I even had pieces of seashell in my soil, oh wouldn’t that be fun to get tacked into that.

LOL, so true.

The grass we had in Florida and now in GA, you are spot on with regards to the Kentucky BG being preferred.

I know Ford Field is landlocked for space for the type of system Arizona has, but if you made it retractable roof perhaps you could push the field up into the sunlight with the same hydraulic power used to open the roof. It would be stupid expensive.

Need grass inside, just call Snoop Dog and CJ.

State Farm with no grass.

Trivia Question:
Why are the seats different colors?

Years ago I heard someone make a good point about the difference in college football vs NFL football. College football finishes earlier than the NFL season. When college football ends in the cold weather stadiums, its starting to get into the bad stuff. It gets significantly worse in the months that the NFL season is still being played. Just look at Minnesota. The college team plays outdoors. But we saw what happened when the NFL team tried to use the same field in late December. It ended Brett Favre’s career. Michigan plays its last game this year (before bowl season) on November 25th. The Lions play their last game on January 7th…and has the potential for more games after that into late January.

It can be done. But when someone brought that up I realized that comparing the NFL teams to college teams doesn’t really work. Its a different animal.

Glare? Temp? To match the shape of the ceiling?

A British lady did that with her farts and is now a millionaire. Hot damn that pandemic was weird.

The Lions have a HOF receiver that knows how to grow grass without sunlight.

All seats are red, but when the sun shines on them it changes the looks of them. I can’t remember the exact reason, but it happens when the sun hits them.

True the season ends earlier in college. But plenty of cold weather teams play outdoors in the nfl still.

It really doesn’t matter though, we have a dome and that aint changing any time soon whether I like it or not.
