It all comes down to leadership
Vrabel solves that
They need someone who can completely transform Caleb into a real QB. If such a person exists. Outside of that they’re just waiting to get fired.
Good luck giving Caleb some hard coaching. Dude ain’t never had it.
Its very simple. 4 teams cant be good in the north. 3 teams are well coached and seemingly well managed (kwesi hater here). The bears will continue to suck. Go get carroll and let him cash in some more paychecks at 72 years old.
I agree …. But I think the Bears are a very talented team. With the right coaching and leadership they could contend for the North.
They are lacking leadership. But not just as a coach. In the Front Office too. They seem to lack direction. They need a HC who can bring that all together. A HC with a big personality who is respected and will demand respect. A HC who won’t sway on what he wants and what he needs from the GM, Owner and the rest of the front office.
Ben Johnson is a great coach but he’s not Dan Campbell.
CHI needs Carroll, Vrabel or someone similar. They should have hired Harbaugh when they had the chance.
Ben can succeed as a HC but he needs a strong FO who will complement him. I do not think CHI is a good fit for him. Too many egos in that FO. I do not think Ben will succeed there.
I hope CHI hires a HC not named Carroll, or Varbel. Carroll especially. He will demand respect, set a standard and force a direction.
Dan Campbell didn’t need to fundamentally change Jared Goff. This playground football, running in circles, running backwards, it will never work. Not yesterday. Not today. And not tomorrow.
My fear of the Bears as of today is trending toward 0.0.
Second place in the north, maaaayyybe.
NFCN Title? Only if we lose all of our QBs.
As I’ve said before many times, if I was in charge of the Bears I would have never drafted Caleb BUT if I was the GM of the Bears today, I would NOT pick an offensive guru to be HC. I would be looking at starting with a QB coach/OC that I feel can get the most out of Caleb.
A HC needs to focus on all aspects of the team and doesn’t have time to babysit a subpar QB.
A QB coach that can actually teach Caleb plus an OC that can design an offense that takes advantage of what Caleb does well. It might take at least 2-3 years before Caleb will be a decent QB. I want a QB coach/OC that can get me there. The HC just needs to be a good supportive leader of men (a Dan Campbell clone).
You see this with a lot of rookie Mobile QBs. Some never settle down and learn to stand in the pocket and deliver the ball. While others do.
Look at a rookie Steve Young or Brett Farve. Heck even a Rookie Russell Wilson.
Proper coaching and game scheme will drastically help him.
I said contend. I didn’t say win…lol
I really dislike Caleb’s game, so I’ll believe it when I see it. He’s about as far from what I want to see in a QB as it gets.
They clearly underperformed. In a normal division that roster with a better version of Caleb could win 10 games.
In this division? Quite the challenge to get to double digit wins.
I also do think they’re a bit short of game-wreckers. Maybe Rome becomes that. They have a lot of good players but I see Moore, Sweat, Johnson, etc. as a rung down from that game wrecker level.
As long as we keep winning the division title and fist seed, they can all go 15-2 while we go 17-0!
I don’t view Chicago as being quite as talented as many others. They are similar to many of the “Snyder Skins”teams.
DJ Moore is talented but flawed
Keenan is talented but old
Bad OL
Bottom half D
Is T Edmunds worth his contract?
How about 5.5 sacks and 12 QB Hits in 15 games for 25M per from Sweat?
Do they pay Kmet?
Rome has been up and down…
Who are their running backs next year?
They were thrown together with some vet names last year and this, but never figured out QB… by the time they have a top 15 QB… nobody of not will still be on this roster.
Bears are loaded with talent and Caleb is having a very solid rookie season - not a great one - but solid. They’re two years a way from being competitive though.
You see it too with young QB’s who take a ton of sacks earlier in career.
Luckily for us and unlucky for Caleb, he falls into both those categories.
Wright is a good player, Brisker if he can play is a good player, Johnson, Sweat, Dexter, Moore, Rome, Edmunds (both really), Gordon… they just lack that true star power IMO.
I think it’s a top half of the league roster +- a few spots
These are both great examples of “WTF are you doing!?” to “See you in the Hall”. Man were those two HORRIBLE haha.
Needed coaching (and in both cases, a better team) to bring it all together.
How bout Kingsbury?
