Why Does CBS even bother?

SI gives us an A+ for the Hutch pick. CBS, not so much, B+. That’s simply a writers opinion, I get it, but then scroll down to what they thought of our trade and player at #12.

Saw the same thing in Kiper’s draft grades. Both of these guys obviously did not actually understand the deal, and clearly have the impression that the Lions gave up second and third round picks, without realizing they also got the Vikes second rounder in return. That’s literally the only possible explanation for thinking the Lions gave up too much to move up 20 spots in the first round!

The fact that he says that we got the best WR in the draft and then, even if you didn’t quite understand that we fleeced them not the other way around, he gives us a B. Unbelieveable.

If hutch is a b+ im not sure how the lions could have possibly gotten an A

I could care less. We got two big time difference makers. That’s all that matters.

I got the feeling yesterday watching the draft that everyone was a little mad because they thought for sure the Lions were going after a QB (specifically Willis) when the traded up. When it was Williams, their reaction was “ hey!!! That’s not what’s supposed to happen when you move up 20 spots.!!”

Lots of these idiots had us taking a QB, so when we didn’t they’ll mark us down because in their heads we’re dumb for not taking a QB.

What’s more useless than Mock Drafts?

Grades following the draft . . . as if the writers know more than the GM’s. Always cracks me up.

They can’t. Not with Pete prisco doing the grades. He’s always hated the lions. We could have drafted Barry sanders and Calvin Johnson in the same draft and he still would have given us a c+.

They based it on bad information. Check out what they said:

“They need a pass rusher in the worst way, and they have to be thrilled that Hutchinson fell to them here. He is a polished edge rusher who will be an impact player right away. The Lions have to be able to impact the quarterback better than they did last year. Hutchinson will do that. But he might be a 12-sack guy most of his career, rather than a 16-sack guy. But that’s OK.

It will have to be “ok” because virtually noone is getting you 16 sacks for most of their career. Reggie White played in the NFL for 15 seasons, and he had 16 or more sacks only 4 times. The sack king of 2021 was TJ Watt. In his 5 year career he’s only had 16 or more sacks once. In Lawrence Taylor’s 13 year career he only did it once. Dwight Freeney played for 15 seasons and only did it once. JJ Watt is the closest to doing it for most of his career. He’s been in the league for 11 seasons but its more like 8 when you factor in injuries. Of those he’s done it 4 times, which makes him an outlier. Bruce Smith was in the league for 19 years and holds the record for most career sacks. Bruce only did it once. Julius Peppers is 4th all time in sacks, and he’s never had 16 sacks in a single season.

SPEAKING of GM’s, any thoughts on what Rick Spielman might be thinking about how his replacement pulled off the fleecing of the Lions?

It was time for both Spielman and the Vikings to move on, but I’m sure Rick got a chuckle out of the trade. Not horrible for Vikes to trade down, they just didn’t get the value they should have, IMO.

“They gave up a bunch to get him” Huh? They swapped 2nds down to the middle of the 2nd and gave up a 3rd to move up 20!!! spots in the 1st round. I guess the definition of “bunch” is subjective but this certainly doesn’t qualify as a bunch to give up for me in this instance. There was a team that gave up (was it Philly) two 4ths and a 5th just to move from 15 to 13, for reference.

I think there are 31 GM’s in the NFL getting a chuckle out of the trade. In fact I assume some are calling them now to see if they are interested in other deals.

It doesn’t matter what any of these talking head/self proclaimed experts think. They make their living with their mouth.:face_with_raised_eyebrow:🫢
What matters is how these players produce ON THE FIELD and that won’t be known for months, sometimes years down the road. So don’t even pay attention to these people and don’t rely on them for any kind of affirmation.

I do agree with one grade in this article. The Giants knocked it out of the park getting Thibs at 5 and Neal at 7. That’s great value at two premium positions.

We got the #1 talent in the draft, #2oa.
Jameson probably would have been the first WR taken if not for the injury.
But, I’ve been watching mock drafts for 3 months and I realize they just don’t know what they’re talking about.

The only thing more useless than Mock Drafts in general is my specific Mock Draft this year. There. Somebody had to say it…
