I see a bald coach doing “bald guy stuff”
Gonna need to run the ball well against that defense…
and NOT fall into obvious passing situations too often.
Those disguised blitzes are definitely a concern…
and Lions can’t afford to have turnovers change the game.
If you watched that video, you know this is a chance for Goff to earn some respect. HIs reading of complex defenses has been one of his biggest criticisms. This could prove/disprove a lot.
Yikes! Goff is definitely inconsistent against these 6 on the line pressure defenses. He’s faced this HC several times with the Bills and has mixed success. I will say that he’s had more experience than most against the stacked box because it used to be his Achilles heal in in the 2019 season with a bad OL in front of him.
Because the Giants won’t fear the Lions 4th string WRs, they will play a ton of press and force quick reads/outlets. I think we will see a lot of WR dump offs hoping they can break it big. He’ll need Kennedy, Aman Ra, and hopefully Josh Reynolds as all 3 can be ready for quick outs if they see the pressure coming.
This is exactly why you need guys like Chark and Jamo that can take the top off and punish defenses that don’t respect the deep ball.
I can see the Giants putting pressure on Goof all game, they will play for the short dump off well. They know Goof is slow reading progressions and panics when pressured.
My hope is in Ben Johnson, he has to call the right plays for the D we will face. Start with some deeper throws and mix in some screens and draws. We will be facing a ton of pressure all game, this is where we need GOOD, (nor average) QB play. Goof, it’s time to shit or get off the pot.
This is one of those games where a healthy dual-threat D Swift would make a huge difference.
But, is he really healthy?

Really?
Really does feel like Swift is our only hope.
I would have every RB called up, and available.
I would screen, run, screen them to death. And stick with it, ala Bill Belicheque.
TE over the middle will be there too.
If we come out and just try to run our standard offense, it’s going to be Giants 31-3.
- Love the reference - LOL (was actually thinking that myself)
- YES! That’s exactly what I’m saying!
OL lined up at TE…just overload them and run 'em over. Turn it into the ugliest fist fight they’ve ever been involved in.
This is the nfl. Nobody is really healthy.
This is where we need Matt Nelson back. Skipper isn’t nearly as good in that role.
Piggybacking on this I will go back to an old story about Marshall Faulk. He said the last time he was 100% healthy was going into his 2nd game in the NFL. From that moment on there was always something he was dealing with, and he said that was the norm for NFL players. They try to heal and get clean up surgeries in the offseason but by the time they get out of training camp and thru the 1st game…there’s always something else to deal with.
Yep. I forget who said it but an nfl veteran was talking to the rookie class one year and he told them the last day you’ll be 100% healthy in the nfl is your first day.
