We just got massively better on defense vs the run with Martin, Campbell, and branch. The proposed draft here doesn’t accomplish that.
When a team wants to run the football, I find that disrespectful. No more Carolinas.

But the offensive line is no better, having O’Cyrus Torrence would make the OL and running game better, and Deonte Banks is a real CB, which we still need. Branch is a safety and nickle.
But the idea here was for you all to look at the way the draft went and the choices we had, and make your own choices. What could have been. Then compare that to what we actually ended up with.
Sorry not trying to be a dick but your looking at this in a vacuum. The only pick that you can guarantee with your redraft is Bijan.
That pick has a butterfly effect on every pick after it…there is nothing to say that if we take Bijan we can got those players at those spots as it shifts every teams draft board.
Again not trying to be a dick but you can’t really look at things like that. So you would have to compare out draft to Bijan and all question marks!
The draft is over, I thought this would be a fun exercise for everyone to try and I was wrong, not one person tried it and posted their own. I never said this was what we SHOULD have done. And I thought I mentioned that this was using hindsight.
It’s a long time until training camp, just trying to spark some conversation.
Sorry messed up the assignment…I don’t know this draft enough to give an actual response and would just be going off the big names and where I saw them go in the mocks .
Sorryan!
Draft both Caleb and Maye and let the auction begin!!:
I don’t mind the trade… or taking Gibbs…but I would have
I clearly would have kept swift and grabbed a pair of RBs like Mo and Keaton Mitchell in UDFA-
Did you foresee the board falling that way in real time…
or is this a hindsight draft???
Woulda taken Tyree Wilson at #6. We need more pass rush oomph than we’re apparently willing to recognize.
Predraft I figured Jack Campbell at #18 unless someone fell we really loved. I just figured they penciled in Campbell at 18 before things even started. Match made in Heaven.
And I didn’t have a predraft thought for 45 - but when Branch was still there I said he should be the pick.
So - yeah - I’d have gone all defense. We had a top 5-8 level offense. Probably a Bottom 8 level defense. Campbell and Branch help the defense to be closer to 20th. With Wilson I think we could have been Top 10-15 on defense which pairs well with a Top 5-8 offense.
As it is, our offense should be around Top 5 again I hope. Losing Jamison Williams until the end of October hurt. Glad he didn’t bet on the NFL. Hard to say we’ll be better than Top 5 simply because of there being a lot of really good offenses. But a #5-8 offense paired with a 20th or so defense ought to yield 10-11 wins and a playoff berth.
Note: Lions have never had back to back double digit win seasons. That’s why the media have never treated the Lions as a true Super Bowl challenger. In fact, following our 12 win and 10 win seasons in 1991 and 1995 respectively - we lost 41-10 and 58-37 in the playoffs - making national media chuckle at our pretenders - and keeping the Lions off the positive preseason conversation for 1992 and 1996. And yep - below .500 both those years. Fontes had us in the playoffs 4 of his last 6 years but few of us wanted him retained.
Oh - I know we didn’t win 10 games this past season but we did have a winning season - just explaining why the media understandably disrespects Lions every year. A winning season is automatically considered … a fluke … unlikely to be repeated.
Some media seem willing to think we might win the North. That’s a rarity in itself. I doubt I’ll predict us to beat out Minny. But 3 months to preseason - so maybe I’ll become a genuine believer rather than a naive dreamer.
That’s because many of these folks have no idea how to put BH and DC into an ordinary box!
Thanks for that take, I admit I’m surprised we leaned into the offense so much. I was all in on Bijan, but at the same time Tyree would be just a good, if not better, for the team. People say the RB position shouldn’t be taken high, but I kind of think that same thing about LB so I’m not sold on Captain Jack yet but hope I will be by fall. Tyree, Deonte Banks or Gonzalez at CB, and a defensive tackle with the first three picks would really transform this defense.
